Hi all!

My parter has what I believe to be a series 23 KA dishwasher. Machine has been great, but all of a sudden its been having a rough time. Here are the symptoms:

The usual symptom is that it will not run the motor. The timer starts but the motor only humms as if it is trying to start. The fix is to fill it with water and leave it for 12-24 hours and then try it again.

Today's issue is that the motor was running (or at least humming) and water was in the machine however the timer never advanced and by the morning the heating element had evaporated the water out.

Any thoughts on what could be the issue? Timer? Motor binding?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Eric, a full model # would be most helpful as there were several different control systems on KD23 series KA DWs.

It sounds like you have some type of pump problem, the DW may also be having problems with low fills and you could have a timer issue, I need more information or would need to actually see the machine in person to properly diagnose what is going wrong.

Even though I am very good at quickly finding what is wrong with most appliances I find it very difficult to do so on line as too many things that I need to know are left out, I can do a fairly good job on the phone, but even that is often difficult if you are not with the appliance.

One of you can call me if you like, or message me with your Ph#.

Definitely a 23 series..

With the Whirlpool PowerModule pump system. You could have a bad starting relay which would cause the motor to just hum in either forward or reverse or maybe a wire fell off of it? Pull off the lower panel ans see what is up. If all looks fine, pull off the fine strainer and see if there is anything keeping the impeller from turning. Maybe a pit or a piece of glass. It has a nice area for you to get a nice big socket on and try turning it with your wratchet handle. You may free it up. If needed, I have 2 complete pumps like yours that work all ready to go!
In fact, I have a complete machine for sale!
Did the timer actually advance thru the cycle at all?

Does that model also have the single rinse with the purge just before like the 21 series? There was one at H4H one time and I coulnd't get it because I didn't have a way to move it. By the time I could get it it was gone. I think it had a few more buttons though. I'm sorry I missed that one it would have been fun to play with.
