They weren't the strongest sellers new, and I think the problem was styling. In 1955, that range was dated-looking when it was on the showroom floor. It looks more like 1952 than 1955. GE and Frigidaire were already "cleaning up" their designs in anticipation of their Sheer Look and Straight-Line Design models due in stores late September of 1956.
This range is just not up to the standards of the best design available at the time. It's busy and it's a little too bulbous - something that spoke to the recent past at a time when the future was all the rage. It's a great nostalgia piece, but in its day, I don't think it's what people were looking for. |
