I have in my collection a citation wringer washer that was built by Speed Queen what years did Speed Queen build them for Western Auto? The tub is white speckled with a white agitator runs great. I fired up my 50's Speed Queen last night she runs but there was an electrical smell that set the smoke detectors off, Is the pump on that machine hooked directly to the motor? Thanks.

Check the wiring and the power cord. If it is still the original cord and if it feels brittle, there may be a short in the cord. I had a shock (yes, pun intended...) when I was working on the 51 Kenmore automatic when I first got it. The cord looked fine, was a little brittle and when I ran the machine, the plug got warmer than I felt it should have; turned out that there were actual exposed wires just inside the washer cabinet that were shorting intermittently! Needless to say, I replaced the cord and all has been well ever since. |
