I didnt want to cut my cabinets to install a dishwasher, so ,since the laundry is only a few steps from the kitchen, I put the Kitchenaid between the washer and dryer.

Just don't get confused and throw your clean laundry into the dishwasher and push "start"! *LOL*

Great Value Dishwasher powder....

...is in the basket on top of the dishwasher. Does it work well? I've always been tempted to try it, but always go to my tried and true Cascade.

That washer and dryer are in beautiful shape as well! Would that be a belt-drive Lady Kenmore? If so I'm quite envious!

No...

Its a belt drive, 1983, 70 series Heavy Duty Plus... The dryer is a 73 Lady Kenmore.

When I was in high school back in the '70s, my best friend's home had the laundry room next to the kitchen and they too had the dishwasher between the washer & dryer. I never did understand that since they had just built the home.

Very nice . . .

This gives extra room for clothes folding too, a great thing to have with a top loader. I love that dryer, IMO this generation of Kenmore was one of the most attractive ever. Now that you have both clothes and dish washing in the same space you really need a Thor Automagic too, lol!

Secret panel???

Obvious question, but did you take out the almond panels to see if the white ones were already inside the Vari-Front package? They usually had the white, black almond and harvest gold panels in the pack at the same time.

Cool idea!

Hans, as the dishwasher is a portable, do you just store it between the washer & dryer and move it to the sink when needed, or is it connected to water, drain and power where it sits?

That is my "BLASTER" !

I have exactly that same dishwasher. Bought it at an estate sale. I use it for parties when there is too much glassware for the upstairs DW.
I call it "The Blaster" since you can HEAR the water blasting the dirt off the dishes... and it does a SUPERBA job.
Although the estate said the unit worked, it actually did not. The heater didn't work. I found the contacts in the timer were open. Replaced timer and it has worked ever since.
I know you will love yours as much as I love mine. Enjoy!

Stevet,

I just got a KDS-60 and it didn't have the secret panel in it. Just the almond and harvest gold one. I felt a little slighted.

Sorry!

I didn't mean to make anyone feel slighted, Brian. But you never know how these things were marketed and seeing how they were portables and the buyer would have ordered a specific color, the sides and back would have to match the front so to save some bucks and it can't be too many, they only got the panel that matched the color ordered. You can always spray the panels yourself. There are good epoxy enamels in spray cans that look really good and hold up. When I had my home painted a few years ago, the painter used the Rustoleum epoxy on my downspouts and they have held up better than the original finish they came with!

The first pic is the black and almond panels the 2nd is the set white and harvest gold. they are on my 22 series that is sitting in the garage.

....The wall cabinets above that installation?

They look like American Kitchens, but the pulls are unfamiliar.

It makes sense - you have hot water, power and drainage handy so why not??

The 78 Kenmore dishwasher I used to have was also installed in the former owner's laundry room.   I think the Kitchen Aid fits very nicely at your place AND you now have a bonus drying rack for delicates with the front towel rack/pull bar!

that this second shift has allowed Hans to get posting !! Enjoying all your posts Doll!

Nice line up there, but do you wheel the DW to the sink so you aren't carrying dishes back and forth? Thats what I love about portables, wheel to sink, wheel to cabinet and put away clean dishes, no walking back and forth, back and forth , back and for........!
