for this forum which led me to purchase of a new Speed Queen washer (awn542). I've needed a new washer for quite some time. When my old washer died, I bought a cheap used washer off craigslist to tide me over until I could do some research to select a new machine.
Almost two years later, I was still limping along with a washer that leaked oil and water and banged and traveled so far when it spun that I was afraid to leave it untended lest it pull the drain hose from the wall.
But I couldn't find what I wanted. I knew I did not want a front loader because I like to "fiddle" with my wash. Also I've always maintained from the first time I saw one years ago, that I wanted my clothes to take a bath not a shower. The handful of ones that claimed to be a "traditional" washer got bad reviews and on further research were usually not really traditional after all.
My father owned a laudromat when I was growing up - we called it "the washerteria" (yes I'm old). So maybe that explains why I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to washing. But then I found this place, did my research and have been in low tech washing heaven for the last two weeks!

If I ever had to replace my 30 year old (with never any issues) Maytags it would definitely be a top loader Speed Queen

oswhid, welcome to a growing fraternity of

discerning doers-of-laundry. Or laundry doers.

The benefits of owning a Speed Queen TL are quite obvious as you have already found out.

Been there done that is a oft abused vernacular these days but a great many of us, myself included, really have been there, done that.

I dug my GE, plastic glory be darned, because it really did wash well, was easy to use, and did not require any special "tactics" to do a load of wash. Just load, fill and go. The control knobs were color coded, large, and made nice quality sounds when switched. Sadly, when I went to kick the tires on the new crop, GE fell short, wayyy short.

Because my dad already had a SQ TL and was quite pleased with it, I looked again at a local appliance store. As Mazda advertising once said, just one look, that's all it took. I was sold. Had it delivered, joined this forum to spread the gospel of traditional washing and haven't looked back. Even Frigilux succumbed to the allure of old school washing (although he backslid into using PODS!)

In summary, you certainly made a wise choice that reflects on your thoroughness of research and clear ambitions in mind.

You will only grow more appreciative of your SQ as you use it.

Congrats. And again, welcome to the club.
