Urban mythbuster

Phil, thank You for posting this stove.  36" inches wide and the upper oven.  This is the" McMillan & Wife" stove.    "Sally McMillan's" was  coppertone and the the upper oven was a conventional oven. I can not tell if this one is microwave or conventional.  Thanks again. Arthur

What is the little compartment for, to the left of the upper oven?

Hi Arthur -

I learn more about where these stoves were used in past shows that I watched...I love this stove, without knowing if that's a good idea or not. I haven't ever seen one in my searches. And thank you.

This was the first generation of Pyrolytic(sp?) self-cleaning Caloric Gas Ranges. Apparently the ovens worked OK, but they had already dumbed-down the burners rendering them as lame as most domestic Gas stoves of the Seventies. I think by this time Raytheon had bought out the company and was initiating the brand's slow, tragic slide into crap.

Storage space, for utensils, or maybe for seasonings and spices...

An awful lot of crap got between the cooktop edges and the sides of the recess for it. Maybe the little cabinet was for the optional 8 track player. It would go so well with the avocado color. I think the upper oven is a gas thermal oven also from what I can read of the control.

Does anyone remember, or should I say is anyone old enough to remember the Dick Tracy cartoon strip? Vera Alldid's mother had an electric range with a TV in the control panel. In the 30s and 40s, there were ranges with radios in the backsplash.
