It just floors me that members continue to find hidden gems with similar stories of spouse wars on putting machines into service. I thought we should create this centralized thread to list the new-in-box finds that have amazed us through the years. So, if you have been one of the lucky ones to acquire a brand new gift from the past, please report it here so we can all marvel again!

Not still in the box....

turquoisedude's profile picture

but unused, uninstalled and almost forgotten for 52 years was the crown jewel in my collection:  the 1956 GE Wonder Kitchen and LW11 wall refrigerator that I found in Texas on this very site!  I learned the hard way that 52 years of storage can actually be tougher on appliances than regular use when I started getting them ready for installation however.

Now, 5 years later, the whole unit is still looking and working fine (including, at last, the washer-dryer combo!!)

Most major appliances were not left in the box if they were brought into a home. There are those rare cases where they were installed, but only used a few times. Is that what you mean? In that case wouldn't a term like Unboxed/Installed But Unused be a better equivalent to the term NOS in smaller wares? I realize that in many cases, these specimens were used a few times, but contrasted with decades of sitting, they are close to unused.

Decades ago, I found a Bendix Economat still on the wooden shipping pallet sitting at the curb in Northwest DC for trash pickup.

I Agree

Any machine which shows near-zero signs of ever being used qualifies!

My new gals

I use as daily drivers. the SQ BOL I found in PA and my friend Chris from NY went and got it and then I drove to NY to bring her home. She was NIB but for some reason the paper had been removed from her rolls. She had never been used. I folded up the box and kept it. The Maytag N was new with the paper still on her rolls but not in a box. they are both spotless and work great. The SQ was manufactured in 1990 and the MT was manufactured in 1980. I had to put a new belt on the SQ because it was no longer round from setting around the pulleys for so many years. It was very noisy and the new one is quiet as can be. I have no idea what I did wrong with the pics but something happened. I am puter dumb !!! Best to all and Happy 4th !!

Jim

What happened to the MT??? LOL Let me try this again.

I didn't get anything new in box but yesterday, I got the box in which one of my 1978 Frigidaire microwave ovens used to be (two years after I got the microwave oven!)  as well as a food waste disposer that's well used in it's original box box. In fact, the box is OK but not the disposer... So I'm still searching for a Frigidaire disposer that works!

Great Thread!
I never found New in the Box find...but close with two dishwashers.
My first was a Kitchenaid KDS-18. I answered a Craigslist Ad on this find. The owner said the dishwasher never ran. I was curious since it was close to me and free. I went the the home and the outside of the DW was filthy. Above it on the cabinet was Sunbeam electric skillet that had sat there for YEARS. It was obvious they used it daily. Yes, above the dishwasher. Years of grease and who knows what. The inside was never washed in. It was obvious. They did however use it for storage. You name it, they stored it in there. I told them I wanted it and they were excited that I was going to take it. When I got below to "un-hook it", this is when I realized why it never worked. It was never hooked up. Neither to plumbing nor electric. I was so excited and NEVER told them this. They bought the home new in 1972. Actually a very nice home.
The second was a KDS-57S Portable that was listed on Craigs List for Mississippi. The original owner bought it for his mother. She used it twice. Told him it was too darn heavy when filled with dishes and she would rather wash by hand. It was obvious by the Dishwasher that it was never used. I gave him $25 to get it out of his garage and he was so happy. It came with the original manual and also the bill of sale.
As far as electronics....I can't tell you how many things I have purchased that were never used. The original owner like the original so much they bought a back up just in case....And never used it. Lucky me.
It is so cool to find things hardly or never used.

I used to live in a warehouse-style apartment in the downtown area of my little village. Walking past the appliance store across the street, I spied a 1959 Lady Kenmore laundry pair in yellow with suds-saver waiting to be hauled away. The electric dryer had obviously been used, but the washer appeared to have never been hooked up. Pristine hoses and owner's manual still in tub, etc. Original bulbs for console, tub, and ultraviolet sanitizing. (And by the way, that ultraviolet bulb made the white suds pop like a backlight poster! It was trippy and awesome.)

I grabbed an appliance mover, took them home and hooked up the washer. It worked! The rapid advance timer needed lubricating, as the trademark clickety-clacking of the cycle set-up was sluggish. Couldn't use the dryer, as I had only gas hookup.

Kept and used the washer for about a year, then gave it to a nice young Hispanic couple who had a baby on the way and needed a washer and dryer. This was several years before I discovered AW.

Ask me how many times I've kicked myself. Just ask me.

Thanks to Mr. Modtomic for the Google-searched photo. The Lady is pretty in pink, too.

Wow Eugene ...

I did the same thing not as new but..

gave away 2 wringers before I came into the best place to relax and educate with in this great place called AW.

It was a beautiful Maytag and a Apex wringer and a avocado Roto Rack that did not work lol.

That is one heck of beautiful Kenmore Mr.

ISE Classic Supreme

Here is the In-Sink-Erator Classic Supreme dishwasher I found NIB in eastern Ohio. The box wasn't in very good shape, but it was there. This dishwasher went to John / Combo52.
