I made a date to go up and look at these in Northville today, but because of stuff out of my control, I can't make the trip today, so I thanked the seller, Ken Hapeman, for giving me right of first refusal and told him to go ahead and offer them to anybody else who was interested. This guy was very patient and the kind of seller we all wish everybody was like so I don't want to waste any more of his time. |

I just got back home with both machines! They'll both need work but I'm happy! I already have the dryer that matches the Frigidaire.

I worked a bit on the Frigidaire washer tonight. I fixed the electrical issues which were caused by dirty timer contacts (mainly the push on / pull off switch), fixed the "cone hop" condition and I found a used pump cover to replace the one that cracked when water froze in it. Tomorrow, I'll try to replace it and then I'll do a water test! Will also need to fix the cabinet that has a big dent on it's front panel.
It seems mechanically fine. The Sure-Spin clutch seems OK and it does spin to 1000 RPM without bad noises! |

The seller did email me after we got the washer to tell me he already had bypassed the lid switch. I didn't reconnect it for testing purposes but I will!
Tonight, I welded the cabinet where it was cracked and I made a gasket for the new water pump cover. I connected the washer in the garage to see how it works and it seems fine! It will still need some cleaning and some "bodywork" on the cabinet but it works! My small washer collection is starting to grow! I now have 7 Frigidaire thumpers, 1 Frigidaire Agitub, 1 Eaton Viking-branded Filter Flo, 2 Maytags and 2 Inglis/Whirlpools! Now if I could get some mid-1960s Kelvinator, Philco and Speed Queen washers! Where are they hiding?!
Here are two videos I just made of the Custom Deluxe washer. It seems very noisy in the videos but it's not that bad in reality.
Next I'll have to check that Whirlpool!

Now the Whirlpool. This one has a major issue. I knew about it before as the former owner told me about and showed me the holes from the back panel when I got it but still... I'm wondering if it's worth trying to patch that outer tub. There are many pinholes and some are much larger! I could probably try to sandblast it but I feel more like I should replace it if I can find one in better shape!
At least, it seems mechanically fine. The lamp starter needed to be replaced and the fabric softener dispenser also needs attention from what I have seen... The control panel also has seen better days but for the price I paid, I really didn't expect more! I mostly wanted the Rollermatic and this one is a bonus!

I knew it was going to be bad because you can see many holes from the access cover at the rear... I'm wondering how holes could get that big in an outer tub. I mean, when it started to leak badly, they must have been much smaller than that! On a car, when it gets that bad, you can still drive it in the salt and it worsens but on a washing machine? |

Excellent save! Am that happy the units found a good home.
Have NIB spares lying about from when I owned a WP washer, if you can use any of them let me know and will post pictures. IIRC mostly two pumps and tub seal repair kits/bits. Think have some NOS belts somewhere as well in my stash. All surplus to requirements as the washer was sold on to another member. |

BTW, the serial number dates it from April of 1976 according to the appliance 411 website.
So Whirlpool was early at dumping the 3 speed motor and shaded Harvest Gold. My exactly one year newer Frigidaire TOL washer from April of 1977 also lacks the 3 speed motor (which I think was abandoned by Frigidaire very late in 1976) but it's still shaded Harvest Gold.

I wish mine looked half as good!
Here's are machines exactly like those my parents had when I was a kid (theirs were white). 1974 Inglis Supreme. |
