Back in June I purchased an Imperial seventy set off of craigslist, only to find the outer tub rotted;o( however.....A VERY nice member here on AW....you may have read a few of his posts...Turquoisedude aka Paul, came to the rescue!!! and just happened to have a tub way up north waiting for me YAAAAAY!!!! so sometime in the early fall I'm going to head north of the border for some parts and a tour of Paul's collection! And this winter the Imperial seventy will get her restoration and be put in to service as my daily driver!!!!! here are a couple of pics...the console is just as minty as it looks, I put the dryer into service already and LOVE it! dryer was not used for 17 years, as the guy I purchased these from did not have 240vac in his house.

I soooo very much don't want to be a party pooper, but I have to ask:
Does Paul have an outer tub from a large/"super" capacity early to mid-80s belt-drive? These machines don't seem to the fit the mental image I've developed for Paul's collection (too new). The reason I ask is that in summer, 1981, ALL the tubs used on 29" U.S. made belt-drives were significantly revised in both dimensions and design. The new tubs have reverse-curl top rims, which mount the tub-ring differently as compared to the previous tubs which all had straight edge top rims. The tub ring gasket is completely different (made of thin foam) and even different tub ring clips are required. These tubs also have different diameters and heights as compared to previous versions. Previous large/super machine tubs will not interchange without a baseplate swap, nor can standard capacity tubs be used on large capacity platforms. Make sure the replacement tub has the proper number of holes. They all had at least a hole for the air dome, but some had bleach hose ports, others did not, while some also had tub-mounted lint filter ports that most by the mid-80s did not. I did some Super-searcholating --- Unfortunately, the donor 1980s Canadian Whirlpool that Paul has looks very much to be a standard capacity, the wrong capacity for this U.S. belt-drive. Like I said, I don't want to be a party-pooper but better to verify fit before driving all the way to Paul's to get a tub that would disappoint!. Gordon |

Stricklybojack, Very interesting! I've never seen that washer model. Could you possibly get the model and serial numbers? And a pic of the tub/agitator with the lid open? Single-cycle timer, with speed selection apparently integrated into the water temp selection. Is it really a 2-speed motor, or a 1-speeder with intermittent agitation for delicate? Does the Perm Press selection throw a cool-down sequence into that large wash section of the cycle? So many questions, LOL! What is the script text at the left on the woodgrain trim? By the way, your mother's machine is a completely different mechanical design than the Imperial Seventy of topic. |

That looks to me as like it's about a 1983 LA7800XM. I could be off a year or two. Ben (Swestoyz) found this set in Platiunum about 2 years ago. Here's a link to the thread: CLICK HERE TO GO TO Kenmore71's LINK |
