Hi, I dont think this has been posted, if it has then I need ny sight checking. I came accross this somehow, and thought that I'd share it here, might be an idea to tell friends if you know that they have an affected model, to get in contact.

I saw this on BBC Watchdog two weeks ago. Quite shocking the damage done to some peoples homes.

i hate this company so much!! cant do anything right.

My old dishwasher which was an FDW20 (the range before this) stunk of burning and nearly set on fire too, and so did the replacement which was also an FDW20
(yes very stupid to buy the same again but my mum didnt know what to buy and didnt realise it was the same)

Its the same recall they have had out since 2012.
Its just appeared more prominent on their website, due to the website update.
But its also recently featured on Watchdog, to highlight the fault more.

at least they're actually testing their products though, so many manufacturers don't. could have potentially dangerous flaws, take LG in the USA with their top loaders.

Unfortunately, the 2012 recall came too late for many people, and I believe it was forced by a high number of reported failures and fires. It was also not widely publicised, and Hotpoint didn't contact owners of potentially affected products. A friend was one of those affected,in early 2012, and Hotpoint didn't want anything to do with it (or repairing the not insignificant fire damage) until a solicitor became involved.

They got a letter from Hotpoint advising them of potential fire risk 2 months ago - bit late really, and quite shockingly bad service!
