I have a GE Portable Dishwasher. My issue is the jet dry dispenser. You twist the cap off and put in jet dry liquid. I noticed the jet dry was no longer a light blue but a brown color. Also a slight smell and dishes had a lot of white spots on them. I used a turkey baster and sucked out as much jet dry liquid as I could and refilled with light blue jet dry. Same thing maybe a little lighter brown. I sucked that out and used an empty jet dry bottle filled with hot water and began squeezing the hot water in...flushing out the jet dry dispenser. Some slime came out...I kept flushing and sucking out until the water was clear. I even poured a little bleach in it and sucked it immediately after and flushed out several times again. I then added light blue jet dry and noticed my dishes looked clear. When I checked the jet dry again this time it was greenish color. Is the jet dry supposed to stay light blue until you add more...and how often should I add more jet dry?

Yes, it should remain blue at all times. Maybe some of the wash water is getting forced up in there somehow? I've never seen the JetDry turn brown in any of our dishwashers before. Does the cap fit tightly?

The cap does fit tight. When I just checked the color of the jet dry it still is not the light blue color that comes from the bottle...it is a little more greenish blue. I guess it's better than brown. I do agree with you that dishwater is being pushed into the dispenser but how? Where/what do I begin checking? I bought the dishwasher new and let it sit for a couple of years after being used for a couple of years. The dishwasher is practically in new condition. I have always only used cascade gel and the light blue jet dry. It is actually doing an excellent job since I sucked out the old jet dry liquid. Would just like to solve the jet dry changing color issue. Thanks for anything you can do to help me with this.

the sitting for a couple of years after intial use is the issue. If you really get the dispenser clean, or replace it, your problem will be over. Sitting unused, the JetDry either got corrpted or dehydrated, both are slimy. You probably not getting wash water in the dispenser at all, the stuff just doesn't have that kind of shelf life once opened and in the dispenser, unused and uncontaminated in the bottle it will last forever with a tight fitting lid.

Finish/Jet-Dry Color change...

I went and looked in the rinse agent dispenser of our KitchenAid tall tub (rinse agent replenished about once a month...last fill about two weeks ago) and my spare KitchenAid KUDS22 (used infrequently). Rinse agent in the dispensers for both showed similar, slight color change. While the solutions in both had not changed to green, they were not the same blue color as one sees in the bottle. I would guess that oxidation as well as exposure to the heat during the cycle may cause color change.

Thanks for all of your help. I never thought about the heat exposure and glad to know that leaving it sit for that amount of time is brown issue. I probably will suck it out again and this time pour bleach in the dispenser and leave it in there a little bit longer....I was afraid to leave it in thinking it might damage something....so I got it out of there pretty quick! I'll flush it out a few times and be happy with it for now. My dishes are coming out pretty nice now. Again, thanks for your help! I can't see the "insides" of the dispenser...would you be able to tell me what it looks like inside of the door?
