Here's the situation:
I currently have a 3.5 year old Speed Queen TL pair with a gas dryer; purchased new, with no service issues/calls. I am relocating to the Gulf Coast and the house down there is not currently set up for a gas dryer. There is gas service in the house, just not for the dryer, a plumber could remedy this one. The SQ's are out of warranty, there is not a SQ dealer in Mobile, but there are service companies according the the SQ website.
I have found a pair of 1999 Maytag Dependable Care Plus machines for sale by the original owner here in Atlanta. Furthermore, on any given day there are more than a few good-looking DD Kenmore/Whirlpool pairs for sale by individuals here. Any new purchases would include an electric dryer, which would require zero modifications at the new location. Typically these pairs can be had for $300-$350. Used pairs like this are not only harder to come by on the coast, they also fetch higher prices (typically more like $450-$500 or more).
If it were you, would you just keep the SQ pair and pay to have the hookup done and continue to use them, or buy the 'Tags or equivalent and sell the SQ's before moving?

Can u take two washers?
I like the Maytag Orbital Drive models a lot its the last build. My friend that I jumped up and down to keep it.. finally did thank goodness . Funny I just went to use it 2 weeks ago, he put it in his basement he know has a front loader and the tag. Only thing is she is not the best spinner.. So SQ is at 710 I might stay with the SQ. And I remember Bob ( appnut ) saying that agitator in the tag is splashy noisy lol. But she rolls as long as you dont overload her. SQ will also give you more capacity. I hope you might get the washer only if you can.. Darren k |
