Until the other day, I had never actually seen one--neither in person or in a photo. Wow. I love this.

Amazing condition?

I just love ads like this.  It is in "amazing condition"... except the door is bent and is difficult to shut.  Oh yeah, and don't forget that the "freon could use replacing".  Good thing I can just run down to my local hardware store and buy freon.  Ugh.

Mean what ya say and say ...

what ya mean. What is so hard about telling the truth, right? It IS in great cosmetic shape for it's age and intended use purpose. But no more than that. I wish the word "amazing" would disappear from American vocabulary. It's as overworked as "like".

Another word that needs to be eliminated from the American vocabulary is the word "awesome".  Why must everyone and his/her brother describe everything as "awesome"?  It makes me nauseous from overuse.

"appraised and worth over $1,100"

Uh-huh, I'll need to see some proof of that provenance.

It's a neat unit, though. I'm guessing this is just a freezer, similar to a Westinghouse Freeze-File? I always liked the idea of the separate compartments to minimize dumping all the cold air, or frosting too much.

Old Sub Zero Freezer

I like the the remark that the Freon could use replacing, did it get stale, LOL. [ it does not wear out or get stale ] I think they mean it has leaked out, which means the freezer has a leak. Some of these older freezers used R-22, most used R-12, the problem is if it used R-22 it is hard to find a replacement compressor for R-22 although the refrigerant is still easy to come by.

"needs freon" has become the go-to answer for everyo

funktionalart's profile picture
No one seems to get that it shouldn't need "a recharge" unless you've an internal leak somewhere. Sealed units being what they are. I bought one from a lady who gave me that freon excuse and all that was wrong was a bad bearing in the condenser fan motor. I've been running consistently at 35-37 degrees since I replaced it.

Needs Freon

How very true. Although it's understandable that most people have no concept of what a sealed refrigeration system is it still comes out as pretty lame. I think they equate Freon with motor oil..."lady, you're a quart low."
