The best

part of the vid was the SQ and the famous Arc-Cuate 210 doing justice to dirty laundry.

So many loads all at once - my favorite kind of washday!

Interesting that the GE does the same thing as Norge/Wards in an out-of-balance situation -- no annoying buzzers, just clunkity-clunkity-clunk...

And the spin cycle was quite exhilerating, all that water everywhere! My newer GE washer (circa 1979ish) doesn't do that!

Very nice-BUSY washday-and all of those cool vintage machines!!One of my Moms houses had one of those GE straight blade agitator washers with the lint dish like the one shown.Never watched it,though-now I know what went on under the lid!!The geyser of water coming out of the lid hinges while going to spin!Really nice selection of machines!Washdays would never be boring!!!

At 2:44 the Combo is turning Clockwise... but at 4:16 it's counterclockwise. Is the GE Combo reversing or are they 2 separate machines ?

Or have I had too much coffee this morning ?

You've had too much coffee

jetcone's profile picture

but that's not relevant Wanda ! The later GE combos all reversed for draining, drying etc. Drain/Dry=CCW Wash/Rinse=CW.

Only Paul's 1956 GE and my rare rare, very rare 1955 GE tumble in one direction. CCW.

The Bendix does never reverse, so don't even think about it!!

Oh,

Didn't know about the reverse for the drain. ( I've never been Combo Savvy )

I sort of knew about the Bendii, spending so many summers at the SpeedWash in Buzzard's Bay.

So really not too much coffee, just not enough input about combos.

Or could be brain damage from peroxide poisoning lightening my hair as a yute.

Jon, Seeing that item rolled into a ball in the Duomatic certainly makes the case that sometimes a toploader is best for a single large item and, if not a toploader, then a reverse tumble frontloader.

I had to wash a huge dropcloth that was dirty and stained. I first washed it in the SQFL, but even with the reversing tumble, the inside of the bundle it formed did not get clean. I then washed it in the KATL and got much better results because it stayed open so that all parts of the item could be exposed to the agitation and water currents. I had wanted to save on the hot water and laundry products, but there are cases and situations where that has to take a back seat to the most effective cleaning method.

Your attention to the spouting and splashing of the GE made me wonder if you had ever done camera work for Catlina.
