Hi Guy,
Yep it's a spin dryer from this side of the pond..It was called the Chilton Electric Spin Dryer and dated from the late 50's. It was one of the early spinners to hit the domestic market. I attached a copy of the leaflet advertising the machine of the time. Cheers Keith |

Have you looked at the ad again?
Early spin dryer...not very pretty but it does work. Good working parts. Manufacturer's name has been painted over many times...no idea of the maker. Stands approx 22-24" tall and approx 11-12" across the top. If you do not live near...perhaps another solution can be made...just ask. TO THE REPLY FROM HAMILTON..SORRY ERASED YOUR EMAIL IN ERROR. IF YOU ARE STILL INTERESTED PLS SEND ANOTHER.

""My Dad sold these [Portable Spin Dryers] door to door, in Toronto Canada during the early 1960s. He has since left this world , but his elder sister , my Aunt thought I my like it."
www.hungerfordvirtualmuseum.co.uk... It was not uncommon for appliance companies then to offer up territories to salesmen. Thus giving him exclusive rights to market and sell in a particular area which could be as small as a town/village or borough or large as a state or several. Given the above memory posted it seems that fellow's grandfather sold these spin dryers in at least Toronto, Canada. This says to me at least they were probably on offer elsewhere as well. This or simply the thing like so many domestic appliances was brought over from Europe/UK when a family moved house. Remember up until the mid to late 1960's you could (and many did) cross via ship as an cheaper alternative to air. If you were moving house it certainly was less expensive to do so by ship. |
