I had to replace the front seal on my washer. It was all torn and a chunk out of it. With the new one installed, the front edge of the tub does not seat in the groove of the seal. The top of the tub is close and the bottom of the tub is 3/4" away. Should I assume the shock mounts need replaced? And, that this is why the seal got chewed up?

Is the wash tub actually touching the boot while resting without clothes?
Have you leveled the machine front to back and side to side?
If there is a nice gap between the wash tub and the boot don't worry. When the wash tub is filled with clothes and water, it drops way below the groove in the boot that you are talking about. There is a lot of flex in this boot. Reason why it is so large.

It is level. I removed the four shocks. Each feel about the same and have good tension.
While I had them removed, the gap was about the same between the tub and front seal. I tilted the back up about 3" to make the tub touch the seal.
The new seal measures exactly the same as the original one so far as depth.
Unless someone comes up with a revelation, I'm not going to worry about it. I'll just keep pulling my socks out of the seal:) It is what it is.
