I've been posting on Deluxe about my journey with rebuilding a 2001 Whirlpool Gold PowerClean, with all the updates and improved racks of the 2006 PC's, and in the midst, I ended up with the '06 PC that was in basically brand new rebuilt condition that needed a good home. Since I paid only $90 for it, I essentially got all the parts I was needing for my 2001 for a steal, so I decided to give it to my in-laws free of charge.

They've had a KitchenAid Custom 21 KUDC210S2 that was installed when that house was built in the 80's. It's a gorgeous machine, but being in a house with two adults and four kids, plus when friends are over, it was getting quite a workout. That said, the heating element has gone bad, the safety switch is jammed, and recently they told me that it would either not want to start when a cycle was selected, or it would start over once it got to the end of the cycle. I'm not sure about the dispensers; my mother-in-law isn't very housework savvy, and when I showed them the 101 on using the new PowerClean, she told me she thought you were supposed to toss the detergent tab into the bottom like you do with the Tide Pods (*sigh...*), so I had to give them a scolding. Still, the KA was washing with cold water so I doubt it would have made a difference anyway.

It's currently in their garage awaiting my word as to whether we: A) Sell/post it on Craigslist, B) Try to find the parts it needs to restore it, C) Dismount the parts that are good, such as the motor and pump, and sell those to anyone needing them, or D) take it to their front curb, AKA "the Magic Curb" as they call it, for a scavenger to collect.

I don't want to see a fairly good machine go to waste, but I myself have done enough restoration work to last me a while, and I mainly just don't have the space for another one, having limited area in the garage and already having my spare Maytag stored in a closet. I'm at a stalemate as to what the best solution would be, so anyone with advice or opinions on what I should do, I'm all ears!

You'd have much luck up here on AW. I, for one, am in need of an upper rack! Lots of us with these vintage 21-23 series KAs always want/need spares to keep our machines going as long as possible. Proceeds from parting would be handy for your next fix up/ restoration project :D
