I have a Kenmore model 2130. Belt drive, hencho en Mexico. I believe it is a re-branded Whirlpool 2130 that can be seen in this YouTube video.

Following any rinse cycle, the machine acts up in spin mode. No exceptions. Wash cycle appears normal.

At the end of any rinse cycle, the red 'lock light' goes out and the machine will not go into spin cycle. Occasionally, the red lock light will flash.

After a failure to spin, I can flip the control dial over to the “Drain Spin” selection and the machine will usually ALMOST complete a spin cycle but it leaves a mess of very wet clothes inside. The draining seems to be working.

Sometimes in “Drain Spin” it will start the spin cycle but before it completes, the lock light will go out altogether and the green 'spin' light will flash.

After a failure to spin in “Drain Spin” mode I can sometimes press the 'Start/Pause button, the red lock light will go on and the machine will finish the spin cycle. Other times yet in “Drain Spin” mode, it will complete the spin cycle entirely and show the green 'Done' light and all seems fine. Usually after a failed “Drain Spin” attempt.

The spin cycle also seems a lot rougher than I recall. A whole lotta shakin goin on. Not a super violent shake but the machine used to spin very smoothly.

I ran the diagnostic error and fault check. It translates to 'shifter fault' and 'basket speed sensor error.'

I ran the auto calibration code and nothing changed.

The symptom of the red lock light going out made me search around for lock issues. The lock looks fine but there are many, many reported cases of blown/faulty washer lock lid switch out in the interwebs which leads me to believe this MAY be the problem. I can get a replacement for $58.

The 'shifter fault' also makes me think the problem MAY lie in the shifter assembly as there seems to be a problem shifting to spin after wash. I can get a replacement for $53.

I don't know what to make of the basket speed sensor error.

I don't have a multi meter to check the voltages in and out of these components nor the expertise to really diagnose the individual parts that way.

We were away camping and had a friend here who did some laundry. No confessions made. After returning from camping, my little missy threw in one very large load of towels and sheets. Too big in my opinion. It was very heavy.

Questions:

1. Who should I blame? (ha ha)
2. What's the best repair strategy?

PS. Moved last fall and left my old Norge behind. This forum helped me get that old one working great. Left the Norge behind as new place had this shiny set of newer Kenmores. I guess that answers Q1. I 'll blame myself.

Replace the shifter assembly, I don't think you can blame the user for this problem.

Resolved - thank you Combo52!

Thanks again Combo. Installed yesterday and we are 100% functional. Easy fix once properly diagnosed.
