Beautiful!

I remember that set well, my Cousin had a identical set in white when I was a kid, she has never had anything sense that she even remotely likes!

Is that a Thunderbird or a Mercury Marquis?

I think your right Vern!

I thought the car was a mid-1970's Thunderbird but it looks like it's a Marquis (or Grand Marquis?)!

Like the one John Candy was driving in Uncle Buck!

I did hear Uncle Buck speaking French but I had no idea he was also speaking German! LOL

A friend of mine used to have a darker green 4 door post Grand Marquis from the mid seventies, I really liked it!

What a beautiful set of machines; enjoy them in good health!

Of course, it would have been better if I had gotten them, but I was feeling cash poor this summer and have to have faith that someday, my Rollermatics (with buttons instead of dials and in-panel dispensers, of course) will come along.

I love Uncle Buck! One of my all time favorite John Candy movies and I loved his car! When I saw the car behind the Frigidaires, the first thought that came to mind was the Mercury. It's gotta be.

is not a '78 T-Bird but more like a '68 T-Bird... hey, I was there back then, that is not a '78! Very nice cars, my Dad had a new one in Rangoon Red in 1964.

'78 must have been a typo

Right - that silver T-bird is a '68.

Lol thanks. I grew up around those cars as well as it's cousin, the Ford LTD Landau. We had a 77. Beautiful cars you have! Does the Mercury have the big 460 C.I.D. V-8? Our LTD had that engine. Loved the power that car had.

If we still built machines like that today, nobody would buy anything else.

Thats for sure!

G.M. Mark of Excellence, until they broke everything they had done right.

The Grand Marquis

were the slightly lesser man's Lincoln. Heck, even the LTD's were. Boulevard ride, and quiet. Room for six, or maybe eight.

Even in 68 when dear ole Dad bought a Park Lane Brougham they were wonderful riding cars. First car in family to have disc brakes. Pop said the stopping distance between the Toronados and the Merc were amazing.

Were disc brakes an option on the '66

Mercury Park Lane? Most cars did not come with them standard until 1969 or 70.
I once got to drive a '69 Chrysler Newport with drums on the front still, and that heavy beast stopped on a dime. A Toronado may have been heavier than the Merc. It was front drive, and that big transaxle was very heavy.
I see a blue German Ford Sierra (Merkur XR4ti) in the photo's.

Laundress: Your post of the Golden Girls

Reminded me of how much I truly miss them.
Truly the greatest generation.

Blanche Deverau's

car she was selling was the worst thing out of Detroit in years.
Bet it wasn't a 4,000 pound behemoth with a 460 4 barrel. Probably the 80's fox or panther platform Marquis. There was also a fox platform T-Bird with speaker box tail lights. I think the Chrysler LeBaron outsold them. Then we had the very cheaply made GM A body cars of that era. Not the front drive ones, those were among the first to get any "world class quality" advances. Except the Buick Grand national of course.
One season featured a blue 1985-ish Olds Calais pulling up the driveway in the opening scene each week.
