My friend Linn is having trouble with her Whirlpool electric dryer. She has to run it at least twice to dry a load of clothes. She says that the vent has been recently cleaned. I am stumpt.

She does not have a lot of spare money. (As do any of us?) Options are repair, a decent looking used, or a lower level new dryer. (Right now, in order: decent looking used, repair, lower level new.) There is no gas in the development.
Any sensible suggestions would be welcomed.

How long is the vent? If it is long it could be a problem. If you are sure the vent is clear, the vent tube is not kinked and the vent hood is functioning properly, Look inside at the drum outlet grill. Many Whirlpools will collect lint and plug up. I use a refrigerator condenser cleaning brush to clean the holes without having to disassemble the duct. Assume you have checked the filter screen. Sometimes the plug with softener residue. Is the heating element coming on? Could be the thermal fuse. Check by jumping it. These are the first things to check.
