Hi,

We have a Miele w756 that has worked well for many years. For the last 10 years it has been retired from normal washing duties and has instead been used primarily for rinsing and spinning wetsuits full of seawater and hopefully not too much sand on cold.

Unfortunately our trusty machine has recently stopped draining and spinning properly. I assume the lack of spinning is caused by the inability to drain.

I'd be really grateful for any advice as we really don't want to have to replace it.

Here's what we know so far:

- it was working fine until about 10 days ago when it stopped draining on a particular load of wetsuits.
- it fails to complete the cycle leaving everything wet and not completing the spin.
- the filter is clear, the external part of the drain pipe has been removed and I've checked that it's clear.
- the impeller (assuming that is the bit I can see/reach when I remove the filter) seems to spin freely.
- when attempting to drain I can hear the pump. I have seen it drain a small amount of water when it first starts to drain but not much.
- I briefly removed the filter whilst it was trying to drain, the impeller is turning fast.

I should add that last it was leaking at one point.... my brother fiddled with inlet/outlet hoses and it seemed to resolve the issue.

What should I try next?

Many thanks
Kate

Have you checked for a blockage in the house waste plumbing? You can do this by draining the machine into a bucket rather than the normal waste connection. If it still won't drain into the bucket you need to remove the sump hose from the bottom of the tub, there might be a sock or something stuck in the hose.

I think there's a ball valve in the sump of the machine.

Maybe it's just stuck, especially if it was always running rinses and never using detergent / warm water it's possible it jammed up with oils.

Could you possibly run it on a hot wash with some ariel or persil powder (bio version) and see if it resolves the possible blockage?
