I am sure anyone familiar with Neptunes knows the distinct sound of the motor on the original 3000 and 4000 washers. I was wondering why the 5500 and 7500 washers with the old style board and motor dont make the same sound? I have multiple 5500 and 7500 models with the old style motors in them they dont make the same sound, they are almost silent like the newer style motors.

Does anyone know anything about this?

you might try touching base with Yogitunes. He has several Neptunes in his collection but I'm not sure which models they are. He may have the answer for you. If not, he could probably recommend someone who could help you.

motor type

ithink the newer neptunes use an inverter driven induction motor, while the early ones had the "switched reluctance"motor with it's "UFO takeoff"spin runup sound-love to hear this with my '98 neptune 3000 :)

FL Neptune Motors

There are three different style motors in NT FL washers., only the orignal style SR controlled motors made that cool sound, I don't think that any Neptune's after the 3 and 4 thousand series got the SR motors, but I guess you could put one in if you can find one that hasn't crapped out yet.

that is one feature I miss on the 5500 and up series machines...

was wondering if I could change mine back...yeah, but I would want them all to do this....

although a cool sound, for many, it was annoying, and people were looking for a quiet machine....otherwise, for the whole cycle, these machines are very quiet...

Neptune Washer MAH4000

Looking for direction regarding motor replacement (BTW...I replaced the tub bearings about two years ago). I noted today that the machine seemed to have difficulty moving into MAX EXTRACT mode (rev up...and rev down) and that familiar "jet aircraft sound" was "accompanied" by a sound similar to clicking/ticking (also seemingly related to the speed of the spin/motor). Any insight is appreciated. Regards! Michael
