Your service tech is right in the sense that many parts for these machines generally aren't available through normal channels any more, but they are often still available if you're patient and willing to look around a bit. I don't know what an agitator rebuild kit is, unless it's the spline adapter. Those do turn up, but you may wish to consider replacing your agitator with a black plastic Powerfin agitator instead. I have an A700 that used the same Bakelite agitator that your machine does, but mine was missing when I got it. I'm determined to track down an original for special occasions, but for daily use I have the black Powerfin. Just be aware that those Bakelite agitators are very hard to come by these days, so be careful with it.
The tub you need will most likely have to come from another machine. Certain models of Maytag's stacked washer and dryer units used a tub that fits nicely, but you'll need to search through the archives to find the reference for that. If you're determined and patient you will succeed, so just stick with it. |

Hi Bob, parts are not going to be your biggest problem, Maytag kept most of the major parts that your machine used in use for long time after your machine was built, some as late as 2006 when helical drive MTs stopped production.
David has many good suggestions, but the real question is whether you are willing to put the time and effort into restoring this washer, or can find someone that has the time and qualifications to do it. At our shop to do a complete rebuilding of a washer like this you will spend something between $1000 and $2000 in labor to do major mechanical restoration and if you do an internal cosmetic restoration like David has done on several of his MTs you could double the labor costs.
