SO fairly priced compared to the next item I'm about to post!
I'm a little sentimental about these units....this is the same drop in range I grew up with--installed new in our house back in 1967. Was always fascinated by the clock/timer :D

Tom, I wondered the same thing...

It may have been a safety concern. I was a little kid when we had ours...and wasn't allowed to play with the clock because of having to reach over hot coils. I guess in the front right, the possibility of a child being burned is diminished quite a bit.
