My sister was up visiting this weekend and we had had a few too many babycham...
We started reminiscning about our Aunt's VERY old british Bendix Washer dryer. (or rather i did!!)
She told me I was sad to have had this fixation since I was a toddler....
Needless to say, she is now down in Newcastle and she is banned from ever coming back up to Edinburgh for holidays!!!!
.... and never again will I try to guide her with hints and tips about the best appliances to buy! Let her buy Indesit and Hotpoint from now on, i don't care! (dummy (soother) well and truly spat out of cot!!!!!)

Our interest in washers isn't sad, just different. Some people like to collect and restore cars, some like to do the same with washers.

soother spat out of cot...

it's a way of saying you are annoyed in a baby-like way.
As in, when you were a child, you would throw your soother out of the cot in annoyance.
Sorry if it doesn't translate.
My attempt of humour, Peter style!

Hey bearpeter as long as your happy, to hell with her. I say she will need you before you need her, I am interested in old washing machines and have been from a very early age. We are unique and not alone, I am in Gateshead by the way.

If you get that kind of nonsense from people, ask them if they'd rather you took up gambling, drunk driving, or illegal drugs instead. That should put things in perspective.

You can also tell them, "Guys like tinkering with mechanical stuff. I found something unique that few people are good at."

Then there's the good old "Who wants to be merely normal anyway?"

Y-IZZIT?

If a man collects cars or guns, he is considered a normal guy, but if he collects washing machines or any other appliance he is considered to be beyond strange. If only people would be glad and encourage other people's passions (provided they are not harmful) even if they are different, life would be so much more fun and uplifting. Bearpeter, I hope things can be repaired between you and your sister. Thoughts of hope and cheer to you.

The only exercise that some people get is jumping to judgement and running down other people.

Really sorry guys, thanks very much for the messages of support!
Things are great between my sister and me, just my sense of humour to make a joke out of being called sad! Sorry, was not my intention to make you think things were bad here!. I have big shoulders, hence the "Name Bear peter" LOL!
Nice to see all you peeps that have family over in the north of England.... it's a wonderful place...!

All the best to you all!

Peter!
