I picked up a Maytag washer that has a model number of A103 on it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about it. It fills on hot and runs, but seems to need a new valve. It does not fill on cold, the motor tries, but no water gets in. Only a few scratches and no rust, enamel is not chipped and the scrathes are only on one side.

Re: Maytag Washer Not Filling on Cold Setting:

Hi! Stacy, welcome to the Club. Are you able to check parts out on your own, or know of someone who might be able to help you if not? It sounds like the Water Valve is operating, but just needs a good cleaning. Chances are that the Water Valve is full of sediment from the past use, before your getting the Washer. You would need to move the Washer out of the area where it sits, to be able to turn it around to get to the back of the Washer. Unhook the Fill Hoses {carefully} from the Water Valve and look inside the openings to see if there are Screens inside the Valve Hose connection area. If there are they might just need to be cleaned. You can take a small Screw Driver and carefully pull the Screens out. Take an old Toothbrush and a Sink Water Flow to clean the Sediment out. Before replacing the Screens, connect the Hoses again and give the Washer a trial run, to see if the Cold Water will flow again. If it does, then take the Hoses off and then replace the Screens. You should also check to see if there are any Screens inside the Connection areas of the Hoses {where the Threads are at the ends} of the Hoses.

Good Luck with this, please let us know if this helps. If the problem returns, you will have to do the same procedure again at a later date, if you should happen to have Older Plumbing at your place of Residence.

Peace, Fun Times and Happy Maytag Laundry Days, Steve
