has been awarded the 2014 Energy Star Emerging Technology Award which recognizes innovative technologies. The LG EcoHybrid dryer is the first commercially abailable in the US to use heat pump technology to capture and recycle energy generated during the drying prodess.

LG EcoHybrid Heat Pump Dryer!

I work in appliances at home depot and I spoke to the LG rep about this dryer and he stated that it is being sold on the west coast at this time and will come to the east cost in January. After reading the instruction manual I had some questions like why does it show a vent setup on the back of the unit? And also the vent flow option? Just doesnt make sense! He told me he would check into this and get back to me. I have had a few customers ask about getting a full size non vent dryer. So I think this would be a good thing. To my understanding it would run longer to save energy but it is not a must being you would have the option to save energy or not.
With these long running dishwashers and washing machines I think their should be a option like this dryer to use the regular amount of energy if you choose to. It is sad that we had all this technology here in the states years ago and it was lost. I did also hear that whirlpool is comming up with a full size ventless dryer also.
If anyone is interested try to check out the attached manual to see specs.

As far as I understood, this dryer is still vented.
AFAIK, it sucks in room air, prewarms it with the hot heatpump side, blows it over an conventional heater to get it to full drying temp, through the clothes, on the cold side of the heatpump and out.
The idea is to keep ultra high air flow and a heatpump not being completly alone as heating source.
If you want true, sure ventless 27" drying, the Whirlpool competitor is already out.

If it does have a vent it makes absolutly No sense at all. (might as well not have the heat pump) - from what I did read the WP seems a lot more simple but I cannot find a instruction manual for it.

Bleh!

On average took 2 hours and 12 minutes to complete a cycle. I guess it is back to the washer waits on the dryer...

Bleh, indeed.

During the Minnesota heating season, when inside humidity levels plummet, I can hang items spun at 1300 rpm in the house and they'll be nearly dry in 2 hours + 15 minutes.  There's energy savings for you.

Actually not because they drying clothes are absorbing heat that has been generated by your heating system.

Still... over two hours for just 8 lbs. of clothes is even slower than a European heat pump dryer. I wonder what CR is going to say about that.
