Personally I tend to be confused by touchscreens and prefer rotary knobs and mechanical timers/sequencers. But the overall color and lines of those units are nice. Bring back turqouoise! | ||

Did they bring back turquoise for just this particular model? Turquoise had been off the market for years by the Eighties. | ||

Robbie the Robot meets 
One of the things I've always found remarkable and and the same time amusing about American Laundry equipment is that the controls (and aspirations of some of the features)have always been about 20 years ahead of the mechanism itself. If you doubt this all you have to do is consider the Maytag A906 and then look at that wonderful photo that one of the members posted of the inside of the control panel. All ten of those sleek sophisticated buttons are still connected to a cam-driven timer!!Duh!!!. Today, of course, they would be operated simply and reliably by a microchip. The panels of this Whirlpool pair are works of industrial art...and then I think of the clunky D-shaped opening tub underneath and that stupid transmission. Sorry if I'm offending any Whirlpool fans out there but the same thing can be said of all the brands. And yes, thank you webmaster for superimposing TURQUOISE!!! BRING IT BACK!!!!!

That is an LFA-9800 pair, the first Whirlpool electronic-control models. Neighbors had that exact set -- in almond. Unless I'm totally lost on the time-frame, it should be 1977. Our LDA-7800 was bought in 1976. LFA was the next model revision. We got the matching LDE-7800 dryer in late summer 1977, which as I recall was just after the LFA series was released. Notice that the washer has touchpads, but the dryer has pushbuttons. | ||
