Question, How many of these machines are known in our club? Question, What color of pulsator rings are the hardest to find? And, what agitator center is Mia the most? |

I don't believe Chris was saying that black rings are the hardest, or easiest, to find, just that he has a WO-65-2.
From what I've observed over the years here at AW, the WO-65/WO-65-2 sightings seem to outnumber all other Unimatics by 10-1. They must have sold well, and it doesn't hurt that they were around much longer (1950 through 1954) as a single model. The economy in later years of Unimatic production also probably played into lower sales for the single year models, and there were multiple models available each year starting in 1955.
The black column you have would have originally been found in a WV-65, or a 1955 model. They seem to have been common replacements for the WO series washers, as I've seen several here on the board with them.
As for the rings themselves, the black rubber rings seem to have held up much better than the grey (56/57) and yellow/coral rings (58-62) found on later models. The non-black rings tend to have dried up and became bridle. The same can be said of the caps themselves - the black ones I've seen are still pretty supple compared to the grey and turquoise ones.

Thanks Ben! Do you think I would be better off with the black tower, or should I try to find a salt shaker style? I am only missing the shaker and metal cap. I am an Originality freak, a sickness really. We should have a parts for sale or trade section. As well as looking for. Robert? Marty |

As Ben stated the black rings seems to have held up much better over the years. I was very lucky in the fact that I found five beautiful new-old-stock pink circulator rings and a few mint condition turquoise caps in the late 1990's at Fox Parts in GA. I have yet to find any yellow lint-chaser rings in good shape. Everyone new-old-stock yellow lint chaser ring I have found has been discolored and hardened, except for one which came on a machine I found in 1997.
I made this chart years ago, the only change I would make to it now is 1956 should be shown with a black bakelite column with the and light gray rings. |

I concur! I have that machine now and I have no issues - it works wonderfully (well, when plugged into a non-overloaded or doubtful power line... LOL)

I got mine from the orignal owner many years ago and they claimed nothing was ever done to it?, anyway it has a black bottom pulsator, grey plastic column gray rubber cap and both rings are also grey rubber. Mine was a late 1954 built machine.
I converted to a WO-65 machine by replacing the timer and timer dial so the machine would give two deep rinses instead of the fun overflow rinse and it does rinse much better now. As Ben mentioned their seem to be a lot more WO-65s around than the next four years of the unimatic mechanism washers, it would be interesting to know how many in total are in the AW club, currently between Tom and I we are down to two. |
