Slowly but surely my circa 1999 Maytag portable dishwasher has been trying to die a slow death. I've been looking on craigslist to see if I can find a good portable to replace it but nothing is catching my eye. None of the portables on the market now, Kenmore and Whirlpool, interest me at all. If Maytag still had portables I would get one in a heartbeat. One option is to buy an IKEA dishwasher cabinet for a built in and attach portable hoses. I am not mechanically inclined and cannot do most basic household repairs, but I may be willing to try this. Has anyone done this before? I'm getting desperate as the thought of hand washing anything does not agree with me.

The model number is MDC4000. I think the timer is going. A few times when I went to start it nothing would happen except for some clicking from the control panel. I have to keep turning the dial back around. Sometimes I have to do it a few times for the cycle to start. I figure that I might as well just treat myself and get a new one after Xmas. If Maytag still had portables I would get another one in a minute. I don't like the Kenmore/Whirlpool models with the filter and can't find any good ones on craigslist. If I could convert a built in to freestanding I would have so many more options to choose from.

I helped make a friends built in Kitchenaide that was given to them to hook up for each use. It was placed next to the cabinet sink so one side was covered by the sink cabinet and a piece of board on the other. Put an appliance plug in electric cord on and used a regular portable dishwasher/washer inlet outlet connector that snapped into the faucet. Worked fine that way, just an extra step to use.
