Well, well, well, just in time for the holidays I'd say. Introducing my very own KDA-5G Kitchenaid Varicycle by Hobart. THANK YOU KEVIN! So with a new addition to my constantly multiplying ménage of mechanical minions, comes a myriad of wonders. How would I go about removing the spray arms on this? It had been mentioned to me that the strainer is wrong side up. Are there any quirks about these washers? Any recommendations as far as it's up keep? I'll be honest in telling you this is the first time I've owned a dishwasher. I've used it twice so far, and was impressed at how well it cleaned. I'm looking forward to putting this to the test on this Thanksgiving's aftermath.

4-Way Hydro Sweep

The wash arm just lifts off. Just grab it by the black hub and pull up. When you put it back on, you'll here/feel a definite "click" as it drops into place.

Congrats on your "new" machine! You'll love it! Have a great holiday!!

Is that the same machine Kevin had in his kitchen during his last wash-in?

It did a fabulous job on the unrinsed Bob-Loads that were being stuffed in it all weekend.

@Bigalsf; That's what I thought, but it seems stuck and I didn't want to pull too hard and break something. Could it be possible that it's stuck? Or do these just snap on really tight? How often are these "4-Way Hydro Sweep" type spray arms supossed to be taken out to clean the strainer? I would think after each use, but I don't know. @Bluejay Thank's! ;) @Rp2813; Yes it is! I seriously can't wait to use this with a full load of Thanksgiving dishes, I love the sounds it makes. I remember watching this washer in awe as it chugged away at Kevin's wash-in. :)

It should slip off. Sometimes they can have a bit of resistance due to the bronze bearing ring. Just use a bit more force and twist the arm back & forth as you pull up. Let us know if you still have any issues.

Under normal use, and if you scrape reasonably well, it shouldn't need to be checked more than twice a month. Remember it does not have any type of disposer/grinder set up so dont let too much in the way of food particles get in the machine. If you wash a very heavily soiled load you should check the filter when finished.

Good luck!

Thank you, I'll give it a try. What are the chances of my finding a dial? The one that's on this is cracked. I think I know what the "Wash and Hold" button does. But what about the "Utility/Utensil" and "Full Cycle"?

Post# 796327 , Reply# 7   11/28/2014 at 09:49 (3,430 days old) by bigalsf (Salt Lake City)
Timer Dial

Sorry to hear about the dial. Unfortunately that part is NLA; you'll have to do some searching for it, or try to repair yours.

Regarding the cycles full cycle is Pre-Wash, Rinse, Wash, Rinse, Rinse, Dry. Utility Utensil is the same as full without the dry cycle. Also, Wash & Hold is actually Rinse & Hold (one rinse).

Good luck & enjoy the machine! My aunt had this same model in her NY apartment; I remember fondly listening to it in her kitchen after a family dinner. Noisy, but great cleaning!
