Going through my catalogue today I came across this machine and thought littlewoods had made a mistake. A brand new Miele washing machine for under £700 which I've never seen before. It still has a good spin speed and a 7kg load is pretty much the average now. Just surprised to see one of their machines so cheap. Could Miele trying to compete with the cheaper machines on the market. Would be interested to hear people's views

Far better than what we could expect in the USA and this is a 7K.  I would take this right now for this price  If I could get it....which I can't!

That's the old pre-W1 line. Entry level. I wonder, if Miele is trying to sell off old stock (machines that used the old platform) to eventully only sell W1 washers.

It is the W1-line

It is the new BOL Miele, which is part of the W1 line, more exactly, the W1 Classic. No changes to the old entry line, but it is labeld W1.
But they have a promo going on here in Germany... If you buy a W1 Classic, you get a service package for reduced price.
If I remember correctly, you get 2 deliverys of detergent, one right away including 3 packs of UltraWhite detergent and 8 bottles of UltraColor plus a machine cleaner, and 6 months later one with 1 package of UltraWhite and 3 bottles of UltraColor (and a machine cleaner) for 150€. Or the same for another year (so 4 deliverys) for 250€.
There is something simmular for dishwashers going on.

logixx, this is the new range.

Rob - they've been selling machines at that sort of price level for years... if it was under £500 I'd be in shock, but near £700 isn't so much of a surprise.

Also, John Lewis are selling them from £599 upwards, with a £75 cashback on top of that.

These models are build using the "old" parts. Miele, in a press release, stated that the W1 washers only share the same feet as the old models - everything else was new. So, technically, these cheaper models are from the old range, regardless of what name Miele slapped on them.

Old platform

Miele are very clever as they have kept the old production line which has probably now paid itself off and can mass produce two models at a very attractive price. It would be interesting to find out if they are produced in the Czech Republic rather than Germany, in doing so it keeps the labour cost down.

According to Miele's home page, residential and commercial dryers, top load washers and entry-level dishwashers are made in the Czech Republic. Don't know how up-to-date that information is, though.
