Today we did our semi-annual schlepp down to the Chinese operated coin op to wash the comforter for our bed and mattress pad. We walk in the place to find the last of the Maytag top loaders gone! They were replaced with Wascomat and Electrolux FL machines, and brand new ones at that!

They now have four sizes. A mini FL that's about the size of a Speed Queen FL, and then three more larger machines all the way up to the Super Triple Loader. The only machines that are labeled Electrolux are the smallest machines. Even though they are labeled Electrolux, they look the same as the Wascomats. So I can only think that Electrolux and Wascomat are really the same company.

As usual the place was spotless and the Chinese owners were running around making sure it stays that way. When we were there they were a bunch of college student looking guys that came in and must have loaded up about 8 washers full of clothing. Then they got in their car and left. As we were leaving their washers had completed their cycles and they were nowhere to be found. And there were people waiting for machines at this point. The Chinese were running around asking everyone whose clothes those were. I wouldn't want to be those guys when them finally did come back.

Does your coin- op offer free dry days?

My local Laundromat has 10 double load Continental, 4 35 pound Continental, and 3 55 pound Continental washers. Prices range from 2.25 up to 5.50 for heavy soil. There are 10 45 pound stack continental dryers and 10 30 pound continental stack dryers. Every Wednesday is free dryer day regardless of how much laundry you have. It is a very good marketing concept because every Wednesday when I pass by they are packed full and people waiting in line. I am not sure how they start the dryers on free dry Wednesday.

No, this place never runs any specials. Washing on the small Electrolux machines is $2.00 then .25 for hot water and .25 for an extra rinse. The medium machines we use is $3.50 for presoak, hot wash, heavy soil and extra rinse.

But coin ops are very far and few between around here. This one is about 6 miles from my house, the next one is about 15 miles further on. The area we live in is almost 100% residential with almost no apt buildings around.
