Hi. It´s been a long time since the last time I wrote but let me tell you that being a doctor doesn´t leave me too much time for anything else than patients but here I am.

I would like to know what everybody thinks about Whirpool´s most recent adquisition (Maytag). I believe that was the best choice for Maytag since it won´t disappear and will improve the quality in there products. Is it going to change the name, or are the Maytag appliances still be named Maytag? I recommend that you take a look into Maytag´s page and read about this.

By the way, on January 5 I received my new Samsung FL washer which is 3.81 Cu. Ft, Direct Drive, Silver Nano Wash Technology and is the best thing ever. I will spent sometime later in the week to tell you more about it and will take some pictures and videos. It´s so exciting.

Thank you all and hope to talk you soon.

Ultramatic52 from Mexico City.

I think that Whirlpool grabbing Maytag was the best option. However, Whirlpool's quality is a bit unstable as well, namely in dishwashers. Their tall tub models that came out a few years ago are getting horrible reviews. Some people love them, alot of other hate them. Especially Kitchenaid...the new Kitchenaids are HORRIBLE. But they're on par with the rest of the appliance industry. All brands, American and foreign are extremely cheaply built, poor quality, very flimsy. GE took virtually all metal out of their non-stainless dishwashers and actually removed the number of jets as well as made them smaller.
As plastic ridden as these machines are, they companies seem to not put plastic in them that can actually withstand the operating environments of excessive vibration in washers to heat and soap in dishwashers.
When it comes time to my own appliances, i'm going to very hard, track down a center dial Maytag laundry set, and a Standard tub Kitchenaid machine. Hell i'll buy them off anyone here if willing to sell. Even a bit of a fixer upper.

With that said, yes, Maytag is better off with Whirlpool than some goofy chinese company.

Wonder what will become of the commercial laundry end of Maytag. It's still better for Maytag to be in the hands of an appliance manufacturer that has nearly 100 years of experience.

Whirlpool claims to value and keep Maytag

i was exploring the maytag site which has a link to the merger info. in there it explains some FAQs and one is that Whirlpool [at this time] plans to keep the Maytag brand due to it's staunch recognition and rich heritage.

i believe what we will see is the slow metamorphasis of Maytag machines into Whirlpool clones.

And what about Amana, etc?

Whirlpool's "portfolio" of brands is now pretty large. Sustaining them all in the public mind would take some serious cash.

How long will I be able to buy a real Amana bottom-freezer fridge?
