Mkay so my Beautiful Maytag DE106 from 1979 will not heat up!
I have replaced the heating element with a 240v Element and it tested good with my meter, also both of the thermostats tested good, the 220 power cord is brand new and looks very close to the original part, the timer also "works" I watched it click down to "OFF" and shut the machine down as it should.
The reason I replaced the power cord is the connections got loose and melted the cord, it shorted on the chassis made some big nasty sparks...While I was replacing the cord I looked and saw no other visual damage other then one wire looked like it got hot but no other visual damage...
Could it be that the timer is still bad even though it acts like it works? And could there be an issue withthe power socket or possibly the breaker? It works as it should with the exeption of no heat.

This might have a magnetic switch in the motor that turns the heat element on

You're not getting continuity through the element. The only way to solve this problem is to get out the ohm meter and track down the problem component by process of elimination. Since you think the thermostats are both good, it's most likely the timer or the centrifugal switch in the motor.

Both the thermostats and the element tested fine and the timer acts like it it ok.

Cord melted and shorted?

Could it be one of the wires slipped down and you didn't reconnect it? You also stated the timer acts like it's ok but do you know for sure it really is? All of the parts/pieces can play a part in getting the heat to work.

So, do you have a meter to check the continuity of the heater circuit through each component?

Do you know how to do this?

That's how you find the bad link and fix this issue.

^Awesome, Thank you, I'll give it another look tomarrow, as I'll have to pull it back out of its spot and take her apart again, since it makes a bit of noise I can't do it after 10:00PM...

If it melted wires, did you check the fuses in the fusebox, or the circuit breakers? Maybe it's not getting 220V.

Goat beat me to it. I would pull outlet as well and look for damage.

I can check it out but if anything electrical needs replaced I'll have to talk to the landlord about it since i'm renting the house.

It's the motor or the switch on the motor.
My Boss sold me a Maytag Nuptune set, Its crazy how something much newer has many of the same design elements, even though they are used I think I like them...Now I can focus on my classic set without the nagging, lol. :)
