Feeling virtuous...several months ago a local hardware store was remerchandising--picked up a couple of 6' washing machine hoses. Had been noticing a slowing of hot water into the machine--I think the diptube in the HWH is going, having had to clean some aereators in the rest of the house. Anyway, finally got around to changing the hoses...went from 4' (undoubtedly what was packed in the machine when new) to the 6' and cleaned out the hot valve--ugh...a plug of sediment in the inlet. Now warm will be warm, even in this weather; plus a hot load won't take an eternity to fill.

I've noticed that before too. It seems about once every two years I have to clean the water inlets to our appliances. Look like gravel & rocks accumulate at the aerators or in the water inlet screens. Usually when our washer fill gets slow it's time.

Where does this debris come from?

I have hard well water and a filter system, but it still plugs up faucets and washer screens, so cleaning periodically has to be done.

Speculate that it's the sediment and shi** from the water heater; combined with perhaps a dip-tube which is crumbling.
The cold water was clean as could be---it's a wonder any hot water got through at all.
