Have Miele Novotronic Washer W1986. Sometimes water intake does not stop and water continues to flow into washer until it starts leaking, even after I turn the machine off. Only way to stop it is to shut off water main. Is this due to a faulty intake valve, or something else?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Does the little symbol for water intake problems light up when this happens? I would be inclined to say that if shutting off the power does not close the inlet valves, there is a problem with the valves. Is it the hot or the cold or both?

Leaking???

Well, if the valves do not close when there is absolute no power to the machine (aka COMPLETLY unplugged), the valves are broken.
If it does not stop filling if you turn it off, but does stop if you unplug it, the control board is broken.
Does it activate the drain pump and\or show error codes?
If it leaks, it would have to fill way beyond the door glass. Do you know where it leaks?

No error codes.
When I turn water main on again its fine. Last night I did 3 washes. On the third at the end of spin cycle cold water just kept on pouring in so I had to end cycle and shut off water main. Then I turned water main on, started program "Drain and Spin" and it finished fine.

It's gotta be the valves, you think?

I may have another problem. The drum is making noise when it spins slow at beginning or end of spin cycle and when it has bigger load.

When I manually spin the drum it's quiet and smooth, but looking at it as it spins it's clear that oscillation is off. I am wondering if it is an issue of adjusting a spring?

Sounds like one or both of your shock absorbers are going. Had a similar problem awhile back (you can search the archives for that sad tale of woe and misery), which was cured by swapping in new.

With no load present then the tub/machine has no forces to contend with; however under load because of one or both shocks going the machine cannot control movements of the tub properly.

If you are going to do the job yourself per my Miele serviceman always do both shocks at the same time. The things come as a set so there you are then.

IIRC your machine is of the models that can be serviced from the front, and that is how my guy replaced our shocks. Some technicians including the idiots Miele sent made a lot of noise going on about how difficult the job was. My guy did it in about over an hour (or less) and though some choice words were uttered it was nothing he couldn't handle.

I bought a bargain W2521 with a similar problem

If water still runs into your machine when the power is off then it sounds like the water inlet valve is faulty.
I understand that the solenoid opens the valve and water pressure closes it.

Your Cold Water Valve Is Failing

That you can get the leaking to stop for a bit but returns means the thing is dying.

Here in USA we can contact Miele technician and they will give you the part number. You then can order the thing and DIY or wait and have them send a serviceman.

Watched the Miele tech swap out the cold water valve on mine when it started to go. Didn't take long and was a pretty straight forward process. If you have the proper tools and know what you are doing it could be a good DIY job. This is fortunate since the part itself is not cheap nor are Miele's call out charges.
