CR has written an article on the best and worst response ratings to warranty service calls.

No surprise, really.

I'm so glad I have access to two great mom-'n'-pop appliance dealers. Both service what they sell (as well as what they don't sell). Every service experience has been excellent. Diagnosis made quickly; parts arrive in a couple of days; expedient repair work. Local businesses know the importance of providing excellent service, especially in small towns where everyone knows everyone.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I dread, to the point of almost being scared, having to call Whirlpool/Maytag about this washer because I know the response I'll get on the phone will be "Have you tried unplugging it for a while?" and then they'll tell me that they have to send a technician...in two weeks. Only for that "technician" to get here and roughly handle the machine and its parts, probably causing dents and/or scuffs (like last time) because of being too in-a-hurry to be careful with what he's doing, and in the meantime he'll try to talk over me when I'm trying to express my concerns and simply dismiss everything as "well that's just how it's made". What's worse is that I have a hard time with confrontations over the phone and in person because I'm too nice and cooperative, which in turn means they step all over me.

A service man has already been in this house four times, so I tried contacting Home Depot considering the protection plan I bought includes a full replacement if I have a service call three times or more for the same part, but then they gave me this crap about the repair having to be for a problem that causes the machine to be unusable. Says nothing about that in the T&C's for the warranty itself though.
