So far, I have placed 3 separate orders on Parts Select for the parts necessary to fix my mother's washing machine agitator (Whirlpool LA5500XTWO). Got everything and tried to put it back together. Got to bolting the agitator top onto to agitator bottom. Drop the bolt into the hole and screw and screw and screw. Pick up agitator and bottom falls off. OK, I'm only partially stupid, not totally stupid. I decide to see what the problem is. Maybe the new bolt is different from the old bolt. Nope. Maybe it's a little bit smaller and I just can't see it. I drop the new bolt into the hole for it in the agitator bottom. It drops right in, not touching any sides. Reason found.

So what am I missing? I don't see any part listed for this. I don't remember any part there when I took the agitator apart. Another board mentioned that there might be a nut on the bottom to hold it in, but that isn't shown on the repair video and I don't remember one.

Also, the video talks about using some dual action agitator grease. The other board mentioned Sil-glyde as a brand, but I can't find it. What can I ask for at Home Depot so someone will understand me as they didn't understand dual action agitator grease?

I would appreciate any help for this as my "repair" (I put it in quotes as I'm obviously not much of a repair person) has taken over a week and we're running out of clothes. Anyone?

The bolt is not used to "bolt" the agitator together. It's used to bolt the agitator to the agitators drive shaft in the machine when you drop it back down into place in the tub.

RE: HELP! Missing Bolt on Agitator

hahahahahaha! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Sorry, let me get up off the floor. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I had to read it 3 times, but the light bulb finally came on over my head and I stood up and cheered. Washing machine is fixed. My mother will now stop giving me the, "You can't do this," eye. Again, thank you!
