Today i began wondering what does the shape of the spray arm do? Our new dishwasher has an S shaped spray arm and our old one had an | shaped arm. Which do you like the most?

S-shaped certainly looks fancier but they both work the same.

Congratulations on your new dishwasher!

It is possible that the S-shape, due to its increased area over a straight wash arm COULD have more room for a greater number of jets which COULD contribute to an improved spray pattern which MIGHT improve performance. John was speculating that the new tall tub dishwashers have the bottom rack so close to the spray arm that the lower powered jets to not have the distance to permit the spray of fan out before hitting the items so if the sprays are smaller, it MIGHT help to have more of them. Whether any of this works in the real world is open for conjecture.

Please keep us informed about its performance.

I prefer straight lines on things so I am for the dead straight wash arm. No curvey appliances or appliance parts for me please.
