 "Water Heater" setting!

Boy does that get hot and WORK!

See the famous GE "Jet-Steam" system at work !

The heaters stay on for the first of the 5 rinses, by the second rinse they are off. But the heat builds to cycle end.

Thanks for sharing the video

Does it spin after each drain? I read that the first model with the transmission did more spinning. That's pretty dramatic dial lighting.

Looks like the very first "steam setting."

Wow...

That's Hot. Any idea what the temperature is during the first rinse ?

I love combo steam rolling out of the machine like that.  They should have kept the water heat option.  The Maytag combo used their top-mounted radiant heater as an option in the wash cycle as well and it could get pretty steamy but I was really only to maintain the temp level, I don't think it had time to raise the temp much if at all.

That is a beautiful, and rare machine.

Neat!  I've GOT to try the water heater function on the '56 one of these days, too.  That'll get the table linens nice and bright.

Great video as always. Interesting that the water is heated from the top of the drum, seems a bit inefficient, but I guess back then that didn't matter too much.

They got the idea from Bendix whose Duomatic used about a 3kw immersion heater, but no timer hold. Kenmore and WP did have a timer hold for their water heating which was by immersion element in the electric models.

I was wondering if the red color for the spin portion of the cycle is a warning, certainly not of the speed, but perhaps of the heat that builds during the preheating before the dry.

That red definitely screams "Danger Will Robinson Danger"

And it does not spin between rinses, but I think it has a bolder spin than the 3 belt models as it always seems to get up to speed no matter what is in the tub.

Cory and Ben be sure to bring dirty laundry !!!

Jon, with the transmission, does it go into spin faster than the variable sheave pulley system of slowly accelerating into spin?

I believe that like my '56 model, it jumps right into spin.  That can sometimes throw the machine off-balance but GE cleverly built that Wile E Coyote reset mechanism.
