Hans posted these in Imperial, but I'm hoping they'll find a buyer here in Shoppers Square.

For such a rare set, the price is reasonable.

My "other mother" had the washer from 1958 to 1964.

what's the expression, "I'm gobsmacked"? Well, I detect some drooling. Those are truly cool. Nice find.

They're in Mansfield.  They didn't have to travel far, did they?

(applause)..and good luck, Cory. They're so much a reminder of the 50's cars, diners, and that whole style.

Well... Day late and a dollar short, but at least they went to the local historical society. Can't win 'em all!

Did they really go to a historical society?  If so, that is fantastic news.  These old appliances are the sort of thing that local and regional museums have been slow to appreciate.

Historical Society

rp2813's profile picture

Makes sense since, as I stated above, they are located in Mansfield, OH.

One look at the manufacturer information on an old Westinghouse appliance will explain why that's significant.

I have much respect for the historical societies and one of my prior customers, The Henry Ford, in Dearborn(Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum).

Maybe this link has something to do with the purchase or will it reside in a special exhibit at the Mansfield Historical Museum?

Pink Westinghouse Pair

Hello everyone. These were indeed saved and there is a story to go with them. I was going to post after I got a few pics of them safe in my laundry room ! They were in the basement of a home not 5 minutes from mine, in a very modest house (not one that would rate TOL appliances). As I was told the woman who owned the house bought them new and did not have any family so they weren't overly used. She went into a nurseing home at 94 years old a few years ago and the house was empty until the present owner bought it for a rental property. The house was immaculate and looked very well cared for. As an after thought The new owner put them on Craigs list on Wed. but needed them out by Sat. when the new tenants would move in. I spotted the add 3 hours after he posted it and looked at then Thursday afternoon. I of course wanted them but the fly in the ointment was the basement stairs and doorway. The stairs had a 90 degree turn and the door from them into the kitchen was only 27 inches wide. It took 3 hours of taking them apart, wrestling them up and out of the basement then up a steep driveway covered in ice before I got them home, then the reassembly on Sat. Now, for condition issues; The washer- it is the cross over type-old style tub, new belt drive system (no transmission). The pressure switch nipple on the pump is broken off, and the pump sounds ruff, but on a brighter note the boot looks good. Dryer shows little use at all, might have some timer issues and I think some of the lint screen parts are missing (I need a picture of a good one to see what is missing). All lights on dryer work- none on washer (another indication dryer was hardly used. These were put in the back corner of the basement and there is no telling when they were taken out of service, there was a 90's style Kenmore set on the cement pad that was intended for the Westinghouse set. As to the history story, in making conversation with the owner I told him I was president of the local history museum, I think he assumed that's were they were going because who, in there right mind, would want a 60 plus year old washer and dryer ! Jeff

Im glad

Someone who appreciates them saved them...my fear was a scrapper would end up with them,or a dummy who thought he could use them in a rental somewhere...I lost a nice 1966 Motorola tv like this...it was at a auction in the mid 90s, The TV was a TOL Motorola color set in a Drexel cabinet..it had been in the conference room of our local power company since new, a bidding war started and it went for a lot more money than I had to spend..the idiot that bought it was going to use it in his summer house at the beach...im sure that didn't last long and it probably got scrapped, so when I see something like this I try to get the word out quick.

Awesome save. Can't wait to hear that you've got them up and running. Hopefully you won't have to go thru too much to accomplish that. Maybe we'll even be lucky enough for you to post a video or two of your new babies!

Congratulations, Jeff!  I'll remember that 'historical society' story when sellers suddenly think they've got something that's collectible...

They probably still have some aftermarket Westinghouse laundromat pumps at Modern Parts in Parma, Ohio.  The business is still operating, as far as I know, since Larry passed away.

Great save!
