Just how crucial are these stoppers? Should they be replaced when rebuilding?

Sorry, your question is not clear on what are the rubber tub stoppers to which you refer.

Perhaps these filter plugs that mount into the inner basket on some models (takes the place of an earlier/discontinued type of filter)?  They're not crucial.

Sorry for the poor description. There are two plug/stoppers on the bottom of the basket. (early 60's Kenmore) These are not crucial?
