March already!
Ok, lets kick off with an item that appears in these threads fairly often - a S/S Tricity oven. These appear so regularly that they much have been one of the most popular built in cookers of their time. It so happens were will be able to trace the development of the same model over about 10 years of so. So, we start with the earliest - it says 1970s, it could actually be late 1960s as well CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

Actually this is a later version of this particular variations as the oven temperatures are in centigrade. Note the grill handle is now full width and the timer is swopped around and push buttons for oven light and rotisserie. When I look back at the white Tricity oven I posted a week or so ago it indicates yet another iteration between this listing and the last, with push buttons but conventional clock timer and temperatures in Fahrenheit.

Much the same as the last but new style knobs. Look how the ventilation grills are much larger, I suspect this was to make it match 120cm height module rather than an old imperial size. It also shows a return to toggle switches last seen on the single oven version contemporary with the double at the start of the thread

regular readers might have noticed that I don't generally re-list items, however I make no apologies for re-listing it again, the price has dropped considerably and it is new-in-box. All gas of course.

Credaplan Hob - this looks like it has given long service but then it could be up to 40 years old. Actually I suspect that it is older than the Tricity which seems in much better shape. This hob is my favourite of all radiant ring hobs - mind you I would have expected a dual ring on something like this

Looks like a nice example of a later Carefree. Originally introduced with plain white doors it was not long before it was tarted up to complete against the likes of the Tricity President and TOL version of the Belling Classic. This is probably from the turn of the 1980s

This is a rarity - I think I have a picture of the cooker at home - unusually for a gas cooker of the period it did not have an eye level grill

Early to Mid 1960s. Now this was a surprise - Tricity used the Marquis name for many years but I always associated it with a MOL model, nothing fancy but not budget either. This is before the age of dual rings but its does have a simmerstat on one of the rings, which I never recall seeing on later Marquis or even President models. It might clean up well

Now, normally I comment if I think an item is over priced, and I think this might be on the optimistic side, however the condition of the cooker as absolutely STUNNING. It has either been so well kept or has been cleaned so carefully and methodically it looks like it is straight out of the showroom. I am amazed for something that must be 50 years old. The seller is known here in AW and to me personally, so I know it is someone to be trusted.

Well it certainly looks a lot cleaner although actually the knobs are showing exactly the same deterioration as the one on ebay. Its a shame the seller of the one on ebay would not lower the price (I suggested this to him when I met him when I bought the Supertwin 70 listed last month) as it was just not worth the money. I got an instruction book for this cooker though a couple of weeks ago Al |

This is not cheap but if you have a Chef 701 then you are getting a lot for your money as there are several Chef accessories in there too. Never saw a "Stabmix" attachment for a Chefette before. For this in the know the chrome angle is off an Electrolux vacuum cleaner

That HPT washer dryer has me stumped.
Its 'deluxe' yet it only has 3 buttons - so I suspect its had a new powder drawer with the wrong writing on. I could be wrong but Im sure deluxe had 'heavy soil' too. 952* series usually were 800 machines but it does clearly say 1000 - I cant make out the model number though. I think its either an 800 WD with a new/replacement drawer or a non deluxe 1000 with a replacement drawer. Its all down to those 3 buttons. The door obviously should be brown yes. Still easy enough to get on ebay. |

This looks very similar to the US versions but as its Monogram it may well be for 240V. I have an American one already (thanks Pete) and I think it is so typical of the turn of the 1960s styling, rather like a Hooverette in fact

Its been a while since we had any decent kitchens, and although expensive, this is yer actual 1970s or VERY early 1980s at the latest. In good order its unusual to see the 60mm worktops which were actually much thinner and had a moulded lip along the front to give the impression of the thicker depth

These seem to be listed at crazy process recently, this is more reasonable. Missing the smaller bowl and yes, the beaters are in the wrong way round. Its another example of plastics discolouring at different rates, when this mixer was new it would all have been the same colour as the stand, I am not sure I have ever seen one of these that has not discoloured

With a 1980s kitchen. The kitchen is pretty nondescript to my eyes but the Jackson cooker (badged Creda) could be of interest and its not expensive for what it is

A RH toaster. There was a matching kettle, coffee perc and milk warmer too. To say it was to match something designed by Susie Cooper sounds like complete bollocks to me although it did match a range of tableware from J G Meakin - which my parents used as their "everyday" set when I was a teenager

I had quite forgotten that the 1st iteration of the Belling Formula built in looked like this rather than the one shown up the thread. As I recall it did not last that long before the more streamlined version came in. So this one is even older than the one up the thread - early - mid 1970s

Nice Creda unit (non fan assisted) unit. This is an second iteration of this unit so mid-1970s I should say and a lot better priced than the Bellings!

Actually Ian, you caught me on a bad bit of editing there - I had originally written that it would have been first iteration so mid 1970s when I noticed the handles making it the second iteration, I think there was a third with different knobs before the whole fascia was re-designed.
I am going to watch that "Time For Dinner" myself but without too much hope as I expect it will be the usual how primitive, how dreadful, how did they manage etc. I still shudder at the memory of an earlier series where the mother (who was not that much younger than me) was incredulous on how to use a twin tub. My natural cynicism makes me think these events were staged .... I noticed a Belling Compact too which would be a bit odd as I thought it would have been roughly contemporary with the (late version) Jackson Hallmark - both 1980s although in point of fact the Belling would have been little different from its 1960s predecessor. I did buy the Supertwin 70 although thus far I have not had time to do anything with it - I do know how to use a twin tub though :) Al |

This looks interesting. I doubt it is a commercial washer and its a bit to expensive to take a punt on as regards whether it works or not. The Plymouth location does not make it any easier either

Now this might be worth a punt at the price. Reported as leaking but sounds repairable and I would love to know who the tub on one of these would ever tumble. A bit alarming that it appears to be out in the rain. Devon again

1960s again. The red thing is a rack arrangement which allows the wringer to be stored inside the tub so the machine could be stored under the work top. Hoover always made great play of how easy it was to accommodate their machines in a small kitchen

Another rarity, I don't think I have seen one of these on ebay before. This was Hotpoint's somewhat short lived answer to the Hoover machines. Given that it is quite small and has that big agitator in the drum I wonder what its capacity would have been, although it should certainly have had a good washing action.

Not exactly the best example of British craftsmanship (this is definitely NOT TOL) the thing that amuses me about this one is that it does not look like the room has been papered for 40 years! That Belling Classic 90 (which could possibly just be original to the kitchen) looks in good order - it would almost be worth getting the kitchen for the cooker

Although massively popular in North America gas powered dryers are a rarity here - natural gas here is cheaper than electricity but I suppose that the perceived difficulty with these such as laying in a gas line and venting have put people off, there just is not the demand. Of course the great flexibility of electric condenser dryers make them very popular in smaller British homes where it is literally plug and play in any room that suits you and no bulky vent hoses to bugger around with either.
Anyway, branded Parkinson Cowan (a Thorn gas brand) its clearly made by White Knight although its Philips ancestry can also be seen. I wonder did it always have that cream knob or is it a replacement CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

White Knight actually makes gas dryer from awhile, they're less a rarity in the UK than they're in the rest of Europe...funny because as you say UK is one of the "luckiest" countries when it comes about electricity costs vs the gas...
UK perhaps is the first country in the EU manufacturing gas dryers for home use, there was Miele also but they were semi-professional models IIRC, they costed crazy for what they were and at least here they never showed up in a considerable number. Here in Italy electricity costs crazy and gas dryers are the only cost effective way to dry clothes automatically...not a case most italians just hang laundry and dryers are not a common thing because of electricty costs. Dealers of gas dryers over here sell white knight machines also along with american models, but american models goes for the most, they cost much but also are more for your money compared to the white knight. I had an electric white knight dryer for a while...and it was a nice little dryer, I just disliked the door grille that would collect lint and do a mess on the floor as you opened the machine. |
