Hi guys I've got an early burco dryer that I've set up for my dad I bought a new thermostat as the old one switched off too often. I warned my dad it would be hotter and dry quicker. But tonight it dried a 1/2 load on full heat in about 30 mins and obviously smelled very hot as not been getting that hot in years. I wondered if any one on here has one.?

Can I ask when it's on does the top and sides get hot ( not un touchable) but very warm. I've used this for 10 years and I've never known it get this hot. I just want to make sure it's no fire risk !!

Thanks

Richard

Hi Ricky

I have no experience of these dryers, and therefore don't know what's normal for the burco, but having worked on an acme sunbreeze some years back, the different heat settings worked by switching on 0,1,2 or 3 heating elements, the thermostat being an overheat protection device, so could it be the new thermostat is allowing the dryer to run at it's correct temperature, the old one being out of adjustment preventing the full heat being reached.

If your unsure would it be worth using the dryer at a lower heat setting for slightly longer, I generally do this and still find a full load dry in an hour in the hoover dryer following an 1100 spin. ( you wouldn't believe i'm often considered tight with the electric would you lol)

Well these are just a couple of thoughts, assuming the airways aren't restricted, or any of the seals are allowing air to escape reducing the airflow over the heaters.

All the best with these repairs, i'm still thinking on the bendix problem, as you have said they just don't operate as other machines do in terms of water heating and dryer timing.

Mathew

Hi yes the burco is all clean and good to go and has probably limped through the last 5 years on a bad stat. It was just a shock to go in to lobby at bottom of stairs where it lives to be hit by a wall of heat with 2 dogs panting. The usual clutter ( dog leads and bird seeds ) that my dad places on top were all nice and hot !!
I'm still looking for workshop manual for Bendix to show wireing diagram and thermostat info !

Thanks again for your help !

'Hot' dryer casework

Hi, Ricky....
I don't know the Burco, but I do have a 'vintage' English Electric dryer. The casework certainly gets 'warm' to the touch, and heat will build up under a pile of clothes on top, but 'hot' sounds suspect to me!! Check your airways, and that the blower is running at full speed. Can the thermostat be adjusted?? A cheap (Chinese) digital thermometer may be a good investment for you. Mine earns it's keep... ;)

All best

Dave T
