or they are counting on the buyer being stupid!  Quote from the ad:

"They were bought new about 7 years ago and they are in excellent working condition. The set is white and trimmed in yellow. "

Hello???  Not EVEN going to pretend that the knobs were originally white, but that was so long ago, well....

1994 models I believe. Years-wise I guess 21 is the new 7?

Where do these people get their ideas?

Everytime I see a thread where folk are moaning about, I mean er criticising the seller it does make me wonder if these machines were bought more recently than their manufacturing period i.e they were bought NIB from a shop that's maybe had them in for years. It can and does happen oh too easily.

We are too quick to create these kind of threads I think and wonder on the purpose they serve other than to instigate negativity.

Ok people get things wrong. This last decade has gone way too quick and I sometimes have to remind myself this is 2015 not 2005 or 2010 etc etc. People slip up just the same.

HALF of these ad's could be a genuine mistake and not meant to be misleading.....

You are correct, the problem could be simple error; however, Craigslist has become notorious for falsehoods and scams.  The anonymity offers security to those wishing to be less than honest.  Nothing can be done about the seller and his/her intentions; its the unsuspecting buyer that I feel for.  I suppose if the seller claimed the pair were maybe 15 years old I might be more inclined to believe the story you offered, but not his bold claim that they were purchased new 7 years ago.

I could be wrong, I don't deny that.  But I am highly skeptical.

We buy things and then, after a couple of years, they are just sort of a part of the household and we don't think about their age. The pick up tag is still stuck on the front of my Miele W1986. I looked at it yesterday and saw that I purchased it in August of 2004 and thought, "WOW!". It still looks like new and I don't stop to consider that it and the W1918 were purchased in August of 2004; they have just been a part of the lineup for many years. My Maytag DE806 was purchased in the summer of 1975. It still looks new and I don't consider its age when I look at it. We, who are interested in appliances are more likely to know the ages of various models based on their places in the line up through the years than the people who are selling appliances online. Some of these might have been in the houses when they moved in and might have looked new then so they approximate the date from when they first saw them. I think that most people have a profound ignorance about appliances. They are just bought to perform a household function. Care is not usually lavished on them nor are they closely observed once set in operation. I think that the errors in trying to give the age of appliances stem from this more than a willful attempt to deceive.
