Hi All,

I posted a while back that I was considering getting an 8 kg Hotpoint Smart washing machine for
Currys.

Anyway it took ages for the flat to get completed. I came across a Hotpoint 9kg Smart washer and I've had it for 2 days now. It cost £269.

I did 3 loads today and decided to do a full heavy load with mixture of towels, jeans etc on a Cottons programme. I did also do a 20 Cottons programme too for the delicate material on the sofa and I decided to wash the sofa covers.

I'm impressed with the noise level of the machine. Very quiet and stable on the cycles. I noticed it added time to the rinse cycle from 32 mins to 52 mins but it still only completed. 2 rinses and not 3. There was no foam so maybe this is why it didn't activate another rinse but it did load quite a lot of water on the rinses and the rinses went on for quite some time. It did a great job. The spins were a little fussy, I put that down to the heavy 9kg load inside the machine. Though it did a little extra time to balance the load, it was stupid with it and it alternated the tumbles etc.

Not sure if it's just me or are manufacturers making the outlet pipes smaller in diameter? I remember in the 90s when I was a kid, the outlet pipes where a little wider in diameter.

When I tried out the cottons 20 programme for the delicate materials. The machine alternated between fast and slow tumbles which was a nice touch. I also love the Instant Door Release after the cycle has finished.

Only one issue I encountered but not had time to tweak with it. I selected Drain/Spin and then selected that there is no spin via the spin selector and didn't notice the machine do anything. Maybe I needed to be more patient. But I've not had time to fiddle with it more.

Overall great machine for the price and I really like it.

Please see pics and video links.

Thanks for checking this out. Apologies for errors. Writing this post on my fone.

Back panel. I noticed the thin outlet pipe compared to machines I've seen in the 90s or the Zanussi Jetsystem. Those brackets in the hotpoint are sooo difficult to remove as need small spanner.

Pretty deep rinse level. Here the machine added around 20 mins to the rinse cycle but only completed 2 rinses. It added quite a bit of water and the rinse cycles lasted for sometime. I'm sure it did a great job.

Start of wash. Sensing stage. This was on Cottons 20 programme. The 'Egg Timer' was flashing and slow saturation tumbles.

Very start of the cycle. I know it's not in any order. Typical Indesit-Hotpoint refills.

Final video showing the dual speed drum rotation on the Standard Cottons Programme. It has different speeds and alternates the drum movements. But I didn't have time to film properly.

Thanks for all the info, AEG03.

I watched all the vids. This seems not a bad washer for the money?

It seems to have a quiet motor. I was unaware you could get this at this price point. The balancing looks ridiculous, but then it is on most machines especially ones with 9kg load in a standard cabinet.

My bug bear though, is why cannot machines flush all the powder in? I see the dredges of powder in your main wash compartment. I think all machines do this. The remaining powder is then often flushed in with the rinse water, and if there is only one or two rinses this is a problem. It's one reason why I have had stopped using powder. My Siemens does the same, as did the machine before it.

I hope you enjoy the machine

Nick :-)

Not a bad machine!

I never have powder left in my Whirlpool or Bosch.

Hello,

The powder residue didn't occur again when I used the machine on the 3 other cycles. The residue left there was from a test wash that I did and I didn't turn the tap on properly, plus it had only just filled up. Hotpoints and Indesits always 'refill' a few times throughout the very start of the wash saturation anyway to clear the drawer. The pictures are not in any particular order. It washes the power perfectly.

The price I got this 9kg machine from Currys is because there was a special offer. Its now gone up in price again.

With regards to the balancing, I think the machine copes pretty well with such a large heavy load of towels and jeans. It never failed once to spin at all and it was quiet each time it spun. It varied the drum speed according to the amount of imbalance and then it would try again. I still have lots of testing to do with it and I'm very pleased with it. I just wish that it did 3 rinse cycles and not just 2, even though I could select Extra Rinse, I kinda grew up with AEG and Zanussi and was always used to 3 rinse cycles. Not sure what the new LINDO models are like though. I didn't like their Flexi Dose drawers.

A machine that was ridiculous with balancing was the Zanussi FlexiDose ZWG7160p. It was the most awful machine I ever had and it used to fail to spin sometimes and take 20 minutes sometimes to spin. I was happy that it went. A 6kg machine but couldn't spin most of the time and creaked too. The Jetsystem ZWH7122J that was replaced after was much better, never creaked and still works fine nearly 3 years later. Only issue is the static fills and it never adjusts the time or water according to the load.

Ive included a vid of the awful Zanussi Flexi Dose balancing issue. (Though I'm sure you all have seen this before).

Just to show you how the detergent dispenser looks like now it's been used 5 times. Spotless with the tap turned on correctly. Still think it's a strange design but I like different.

Hi aeg03, I see you got a new machine in the end... I'm a bit surprised to see that you finally decided to go for an Indesit company machine considering your past experience with them... oh well... everybody deserves a second chance ;-)

In my case, I've already given them a second chance some time ago, and all I got was disappointment! That said, they might really be different nowadays and I find their look and wash functions rather appealing (truth be told, I had a soft spot for the Hotpoint look even with the previous models, but I never fully appreciated the extent of their programming). Good luck with this babe ;-)

Many thanks Haxisfan :)

I was a bit dubious of Indesit machines after experience of the Indesit IWB5123 machine and always liked Zanussi machines.

The latest generation Zanussi's are not like what they used to be so I decided not to go for that brand again. I was very much interested in the Hoover model that your purchased as it looks absolutely great but as I live in an open plan apartment that I think neighbours can hear stuff (already has downstairs ask me not to vacuum 'late' at 21.30pm) I opted for this Hotpoint and with it being virtually silent when washing its great and hardly any noise when spinning.

It took me some time to get used to the 2 only rinses as the AEG and Zanussi's I've always had, did 3 as standard and even the last Beko - which I really didn't like at all as the clothes would hardly get drenched. It seems 2 only rinses is the way it's going today and I'm on a water meter anyway so its beneficial. The Hotpoint can take up to 10 mins at a time rinsing, where as the Indesit always filled with very deep levels and rinsed for maybe only 2 mins.

As with the Hoover machine, I can see that the Hotpoint adapts the amount of water used for the rinses depending on the amount loaded. I'm not sure if it adapts for suds however like your Hoover model does. My only gripe is that its a little fussy on starting spins. When the machine senses the load, it drops the time down if it has a small amount in there but I have noticed that when it comes to the beginning of the rinse cycle, it adds more time everytime. But that's the joys of electronic controls.

I'd love to see more videos of your Hoover Slim Depth 7KG please :))

Large absorbent Load Rinse levels

Did a large 9kg load at 40 degrees on cotton cycle. I noticed the machine had filled up quite high on the rinses. It must have sensed this from the beginning as it doesn't always take this much water for rinses and it also didn't reduce the wash time today like it does when the load is half or less absorbent. Reminded me of mums Servis from the 80s that used to do that. I do like a high rinse level!

It seemed to do a good job at getting the powder out too.

A relative of mine got the washer dryer version of this family of machines. It's working surprisingly well. The dry cycles are excellent.

Iej,

I never would have considered a Hotpoint before or Indesit but this machine has changed my mind. I like the features it has. When washing it's near enough silent (can only hear sloshing of water and clothes) and on spins it's not too loud when on full 1400rpm.

I discovered the other day by accident that the machine switches the pump on and off when on spin (a bit like an LG). I spun an already spun item in the machine and the pump didn't come on once for the entire spin. It only came on briefly at the end and then the Instant Door release made its 'Clunk Clunk' sound it beeped to say it's finished. I can open it immediately which I love.

The Drain only option if selected will only activate the pump if any water is present on the drum or any wet clothes are dripping in the drum otherwise the machine will not activate the pump on the drain only programme and will fast forward to ending the selected drain only programme. I did a test by setting 'Drain Only' and the machine did nothing when it was empty, I then tipped some water in the detergent drawer and the pump came on. So that's when I realise the sensor must know when to switch the pump on and this occurs during spin phrases too. Saves having to listen to a pump noise I guess.

I also like the distribution tumbles on Cottons 60 and 20 degree programmes.
