Hello all,

I have 3 furry pets and really want to purchase a Filter-Flo washing machine or something that filters out the fur similarly. I'm in Dallas, TX and would travel throughout Texas to pick it up.

I learned about the Filter-Flo design by doing laundry at my grandmother-in-law's house, and was amazed how much hair and fur it caught! I need one for myself now!

You came to the right place. A member here might just have one they're interested in selling. Also keep watching Craigslist. They turn up there often. I just got one last Sunday for $25.00 that I found on CL.

Thanks, Ken!

I check Craigslist now and then but haven't found one yet :(

Mr. K's actually ripped us off a couple years ago when we bought a house with a gas dryer hookup and needed a new dryer. We couldn't get it to connect to the gas line when we got it home, so we called an appliance tech. He told us the gas input/connection was damaged and would have to be replaced, and it was also "hot-wired," i.e. the fuse that would normally prevent a fire had been wired though. (I'm sure I'm not explaining it correctly.) Anyway, we put it out by the road with a "NEEDS REPAIR" sign and bought a much nicer, working dryer from someone on craigslist for the same price. In short, I would not recommend Mr. K's.

I'll check out the other two stores, though. Thanks for the leads!

In searching Dallas/Fort Worth and Austin CL I saw many ads for stores selling used appliances. I did find an ad for an old coin operated commercial GE washer which would have been from Filter Flo era but it needed work. Didn't think youd be interested.

Hi Allison.  I'll keep an eye out on Craigslist for Central Texas, Austin, and San Antonio.  That washer in Galveston looks pretty decent.  If it doesn't have the filter pan, there are many here who no doubt have extras.  that machine is a standard capacity.  And welcome!!  Also, keep an eye out for Hotpoints that have the same shaped door lid.  They had the filer ring along the top rim of the tub and was self-cleaning.  We call those Rim-Flos lol.

Great finds in Galveston and Houston! Thanks so much for finding those for me, appnut and goatfarmer.
It just so happens I'll be in Houston next weekend so it would be a perfect time to pick one of these up. I'll let you know if I'm able to get either of them.

There are also a couple Hotpoints closer to Dallas that I'm investigating. I'd never heard of this brand. Thanks for the tip! Are they basically the same as GE, just under a less known brand?

Any thoughts on this one?

Another member would know better than me if this is a rim flow model. The water level issue is probably due to a defective pressure switch or an obstruction in the hose that connects to the switch. The switch is located in the control panel and is not difficult to replace.

I believe the Hotpoint is a rim flow. It still would do a decent job.

Ys, that's a Hotpoint rim-flo lol.  the poster says you can't adjust the water level, if that's the case, there's something wrong with it that probably is an easy fix because the little nobs are water temp and water level.

it's not like the Hotpoint can't be converted to a regular FilterFlo with just a few parts exchange....

My Hotpoint

macboy91si's profile picture

Ironically this later became a 1986 SpotScrubber... But yes you only need a few parts to convert one. I would recommend the GE system, the rim collar gets filled up too easy and then starts dumping whatever it caught back into the wash. Mostly this isn't an issue, but it you're specifically using this for animal hair, get the GE variant and possibly pickup a bigger filter hat for it. My dog hair test on the Hotpoint yielded a lot of scum/hair redeposit which the GE dealt with much better. Also due to the filter collar's placement on the Hotpoint, it doesn't really spray rinse the clothes, instead the sprays just flush out the filter collar. The GE version does not have an obstruction here. The filter collar on the HP also tends to need servicing in hard water situations, the tiny holes get clogged with deposits and filtration gets worse. While the GE will suffere from this as well, it's much easier to clean and remove and the plastic on the Filter-Flo seems easier to clean overall.

Tim is correct....that moving pan will ball up and collect so much more lint and pet hair than the RimFlo design.....

and yes, go for the bigger filter pan as well.....

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to update you and let you know I bought the model in Houston that appnut found on Craigslist. So far it's working well! I appreciate everyone's help.

Take care :)
