I suppose it is to be expected, though it happened much sooner than I thought. The two models that are now listed as "traditional top load" washers have the new agipeller, and neither machine has a manual water level option. I'm glad I still have my WP belt-drive stored in waiting until I have a laundry room to hold both it, the Bravos and the dryer.

I am interested to see how well these machines will perform. I assume that though they are considered traditional, they use HE water levels and roll the load from the center to the outside. They aren't terrible looking machines on the inside, and the vanes on the post of the agitator remind me of the standard straight vane that is usually in the BOL machines WP builds.

Also, check out Maytag's equivalent machines on their website. One of them actually has a horsepower rating for the motor listed in the key features.

Interesting. That is how their commercial washers are designed. I want to see it in action!

Actually i've looked at both models online and it seems as if they use a good amount of water. One of the models show how much water is in the tub.

Sadness

It certainly seems that Whirlpool has come up with and abandoned more designs than I can count over the past 10 years. This is just another step towards self destruction, IMO.

sadly i can not accept this since for me i find that an agitator washer is the best cleaner and shopsthat sells used refurbish appliance as new will have a high demand for agitator washers, not counting that alot will most certainly boycott whirlpool maytag washers and dryers and will go toward bransd like speed queen (*huebsch in canada) general electric and hotpoint for topload. Washers with agitator and this will also affect sales in major stores that sell the whirlpool brand. well these are my toughs and i am sure some will agree with me and i think its time that the goverments stop putting so many restrictions when it comes to washing machines construction i wish that we could have a good top load washer that respect the energy star requirements but with out affecting its cleaning power

like for exemple you need to do a true hot water wash but requires a warm rinse {because of recovering from a cold to kill germs or allergies} sorry for the fowl word i will use but curse the fact that washers today eather they are a top load or front load that are all cold rinse, we need a washers that can give us the option of a true warm rinse with out haveing to reset the dial to the main wash cycle just to have warm water for rinsing clothes. [**Top load washer with mechanic timer dial].

Unless you want to buy a Speed Queen-looks like if you are an agitator TL washer fan-you are going to have to do your washer shopping at the appliance swap shops.

For the time being GE and Hotpoint are still making top loaders with agitators and they are pretty good machines.

well one thing i know is whirlpool needs to post a poll

pierreandreply4's profile picture
Well one thing i know for sure is that they need to post a poll on there website to ask customers what they went for there washing needs because its sad but whirlpool in the laundry department will be losing lots of customers that will look at other brands for buying a washers and dryers and its sad to see that whirlpool has gone from good qualaty washers and dryers older belt drive and direct drive washers and matching dryers to something so restricted because of local goverments and energy star requiement sure we can have energy star washers and dryers but not be limited by so many restrictions.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge until you try one or see a video of it operating. I was skeptical too of the new belt drive until I tried one, and saw it did a very good job.
Whirlpool might be on to something with this HE agitator. It looks as those it would be gentle on clothes while providing the turnover needed with a small tube of water.

All Whirlpool needs to do..

Is start making the old style belt drive machines again, exactly like they made in the 80s, and I guarantee you they would not be able to build them fast enough!..I know I would buy one!Forget all this so called energy efficient new"technology".

They better be up to something. All the different models that I clicked on initially have all been "discontinued" that were top load agitator models unless it's the remaining three that are "traditional" top loader with that new fangled agitator in it.

Only time will tell and we see what happens with it.

the perfect washer that whirlpool should make

pierreandreply4's profile picture
well 1 thing i can say is that whirlpool needs to return to basics the perfect washers i would see are these with classic surgilator agitator super surgilator agitator but would see with an extra option a switch that we can turn for classic belt drive fill and washing syle or a direc drive fill and wash system witch means it would protect the belt and we get both wash system in 1 washer well these are my toughs and credit to phil for the use of is pictures that i saved up on my computer please note that some are that i saved from ads.

I recently got in my new models with these new "agitators." I haven't hooked any up to watch the action yet. Even the low-end Amana has the new agipeller and is listed as "HE."

Post# 815425 , Reply# 17   3/23/2015 at 20:54 (3,292 days old) by supersurgilator (Indiana)

I looked at all the different sites today and also noticed the Amana's have been changed out. But, if you STILL want an agitator, get a Kenmore. Sears has their new lineup on the sight as well, the base model lists a dual action agitator, and the 2 upper models have a newly designed triple action agitator. After downloading the manual hoping for a pic, is what they have done for the kenmore line, is keep the agipeller plate but add the upper auger of either the dual or triple action agitator to it. So possibly with that and the deep water wash that both models have, it may not be do bad. Plus at least there are NO spray rinses on ANY of these new models so no more need for that fabric softener switch.

The Amana's agepiller has me puzzled. It looks no where near to the maytag version of it. It actually looks as if it has proper fins and can do a decent job at cleaning. Also is whirlpool going to come out with these models as well? All i'm seeing is Amana and Maytag models so far...

*UPDATE*
Looks like kenmore's have now been revamped with the agepeller models as well. Models such as 20222 and 22332. Looks EXACTLY like the Amana models from the outside...

*UPDATE*
Whirlpool is now in the line as well. Also noticed that their load selctor model is now gone from the website.

I'm sure this redesign is in response to water regulations but I bet they kept in mind complaints about the old design and liquid fabric softener. That was actually one of the biggest reasons I didn't choose a WP brand washer because I didn't want a high end machine. With most of the low end models you couldn't use liquid FS except on like one cycle. What a pain! I guess only time will tell how these guys will do. I'm interested to see them in action :)

Funny I just noticed in logixx's photo 3 of the Kenmore version of the new agipeller…it looks very similar to the setup in my GE Hydrowave. I put in the older straight vane FlexCare agitator. I don't do many large loads so the corkscrew was kind of pointless. This adds a little more room in there. Interesting! ;-)

I'm also curious if it will keep the 180 arc that the agitator models used or if it will use a 360 arc like the cabrios use.

i currently find that the HE agitator models of WP VMW washers don't wash that well or clean to be honest now they are bringing these smh it could get worse now.

Idealy it should have both 180 and 360 degree wash profiles .... idk what WP is doing but i see front loaders as the end all with washers or go SpeedQueen

even is speedqueen goes HE it will still be better than WP variants.

This washes like the GE hydrowave, with the Precise fill options. It fills lower than a regular washer. Seeing this makes me feel a little better. It looks like it uses enough water.

If it washes like the Hydrowave, it will do a good job. You can use lower water a lot more than in a typical short/fast agitation system since the clothes move more side to side. I've had mine set up with an older straight vane agitator and it looks and works similar to this. Nice improvement over the last models…and I'm glad they brought the deep rinse back!

I bought my parents this model

www.homedepot.com/p/Whirlpool-3-6...

and it still appears to be available for sale. Parents are very pleased with it. It has selection dials for water level, temperature, and second rinse, in addition to the master control knob. Seems to wash pretty well for a TL. It was on sale in January for $398. They also sell a similar wash with an "agipeller" and they now bill it as an "HE TL" machine, and currently sell it for $398, vs $498 for my parents' model. THe prices for the two models were reversed in January.

"additional heat"

I don't get how they came to the conclusion to use this as a slogan in combination with the HE agitator.
This washer does not have a heater AFAIK, and I doub it has true hot fills as it advertises its ATC.

"additional heat"

Agreed. The fact that they felt no reason to explain where the supposed heat comes from seriously lowers their credibility, IMO.

Also, do I need new glasses or is the washer only a bit over half full? So I get to run 2 loads instead of one?

I immediately caught the reference to "added heat," which is a puzzle for sure, LOL.

Regards to the water level, this is an HE machine with a centerpost added to the impeller.  They have auto-water level sensing, no manual setting.  And the load shown is of average size, certainly not a full load.

8 lbs load

That threw me to LGs TurboWash all of the sudden. They advertise the 5.7ft³ with TurboWash, however, the tests about it are done with an "average" 8 pound load. Not that 8 pounds is an unusual load size, but for a washer that big it certanly should be nothing.

I'd like to see it on a Normal cycle with that full load of clothes. They'd probably rollover better in all honesty. They moved in the Deep Wash but you could tell they were floating too much to be pushed up and out by the impeller vanes.

It's a shame that we have seen washers like these, and now we have the "removable agitator", which is a stupid design. It will always use that stupid low water level unless you select a stupid deep fill which is still stupid. It never fills up completely. Most consumers are too stupid.

I don't think any of the models discussed in this nearly 9-year-old thread are even being made anymore, although I do believe that shortly after this, the dual action agitator replacements to these agipeller washers came onto the market. One of these was the WTW4816FW, which I had the first iteration of and now have a later version, that being the FW3. I'm not sure how much longer my washer will be out, as even ow it's only available at Lowes, but dual action machines are indeed still available.
