I have the GE version and it does a great job. It's basically the same, just slight upgrades from the Hotpoint. I'd get the one that has the fabric softener dispenser at least. It allows for a full tub rinse. The plastic tub is very durable actually. It's fun to watch :)

Joey does it do full tub wash also or auto fill? Are the water temps dumbed down?

I also have the GE version. You have control over the water levels and there is no auto temp control, hot is as hot as your water heater gets. The super water level fills 2 inches from the top, you can hold the reset on the water level switch and get a fill right to the top. My washer is the 3.9 cu ft. tub, so I seldom find the need to use the reset. You can adjust the water level switch just like the Speed Queen can be adjusted, I just don't see the need to do so. I have had my GE for 2 1/2 years, no problems or issues at all. It cleans very well, has the same timer control as the Hotpoint and completes a super load in 40-45 mins. If you use the Power Rinse option you get a full fill rinse. I have been completely satisfied and I'm pretty sure that the only difference between the GE and Hotpoint is the plastic tub. From what I've heard the plastic tub is the same material used in dishwasher tubs and is durable.

Mine is the BOL GE and has a plastic tub. It's actually the only GE (aside from the
Spacemaker) that uses the plastic tub like the Hotpoint. All others are stainless like ea56's.

The temps are pretty true as far as I can tell. I think the warm is more like room temp. But hot is hot and cold is cold!

Mines does not have the Precisefill (auto fill). The Hotpoints don't either.

Definitely check pricing on both because at the time I bought mine, the GE was actually cheaper than the Hotpoint.

Like ea56, I'm happy with mine. I was considering a change but backed out. It's really a fine washer and as close to "old school" as you can get, aside from Speed Queen, which is far more expensive. It's belt driven with no transmission and I believe it will prove to be very durable over time. Simple design with not much to go wrong.
